The cast of locals were wonderful-- totally appreciated the brutal honesty. Great flick. Jack Black is a great singer in every genre apparently. Absolutely nutty tale from Texas.

A fundamentally dark film - based on true events - about the way people manipulate those around them which begets more manipulation but in wider circles. There are some tonal inconsistencies in the film that detract from its full potential impact - Linklater seems to reach for moments of levity when they are not needed. But Black manages to do enough with his performance to imbue the film with the necessary tragedy.

Great performances, but once it reaches a certain point there's sort of nowhere else to go.

Not at all the kind of film I was expecting. Jack Black is surprisingly mellow and Matt McConaughey keeps his shirt on. I was pleasantly surprised how engaging it was.

It's a slow build, and ends up presenting a nuanced picture of what happened, and the people involved. Jack Black is spectacular, as usual. (I've always been more impressed with him as an actor than as a comedian.) Some of the other performances are a bit lazy, I guess, but the directing is strong enough to compensate.

The guy over there says "A must see movie" and throws a 75, thats a really fucked-up scale, mate. All I wanna say is: this movie is lame. I can't even believe how that cast and direction could make such an uninteresting and totally-not-exciting movie.

Its amazing how good Jack Black can be when he plays an actualy character rather than himself. I wasnt aware of the 'Bernie' backstory so I went into this with fresh eyes and I think this is a well executed interesting drama story. I imagined there would be a little more comedy in the narrative as Jack Black is the lead but I struggled to find any laughs. The performances across the board are fantastic and when you have a true story as captivating as this it definitely delivers on screen.

perfectly casted, from the leads down to the townspeople, some of whom were playing themselves; the writing was excellent, this is exactly how I imagine small town Texas people to talk; the almost-documentary style filming and interviews were perfect; perhaps a little slow at times but the laughs and interviews keep it moving

An excellent role for Black whose musical performances are delightful. I was hoping for some solid black humor, but this is a "comedy" because it treats the material lightly; I would only call one scene funny (upselling a casket). It's unfortunate that many of the interviews--which dominate the film--are dull and repetitive.

Dark comedy which uses "mockumentary" elements to really charming and blackly funny effect. I was a little drunk when I saw this so perhaps I'm overrating it, but I thought the film had a lot of heart, and Jack Black's performance was terrific.

A very interesting film. It has a lot to say about human behavior and you don't even need to pay close attention to pick up on it.

Bernie is a great film, and should definitely be seen. The directing, the acting, the writing - all of it adds up to make a very thought-provoking and unique, yet not completely humorless, film.

At times I was wondering why I was watching it, but then Jack Black was singing along to Love Lifted Me and I could't stop laughing.
