Whenever my grandchildren ask what life was like before The Event, I'll tell them of the times when we happily wasted millions of dollars on not one but three movies about rich talking dogs, before sending them out into the wasteland to scavenge for the carcasses of animals that could have once been film stars. If you want to see why our civilization is doomed, then look no further.

The CGI mouths are good, but there are many shortcuts that have been used such as looping the video of the dogs bodies which makes them look weirdly static. The story is very simple but of note is Papis politics. He wants to home-school his kids and he hates mainstream education, believing he can teach them everything they need to know. He refuses to do high fives and is fiercely proud of his heritage and the country he comes from. I submit to you that Papi is a conservative republican.

Sucumbam chihuahua

The music group puns (“Bob Marley & Me”) were at least amusing, but I think this dog of a series has finally had its day; it’s good natured enough, but awfully thin – dreary domestic disagreements attempt to sputter this one to life (and as with Part 2, the efforts to impose a nefarious human plot as a side-story doesn’t work; who cares about the hotel sabotage?) Fleeting superficial moments of fun watching cute puppies is about all this has going for it.

These films just seem to get worse and worse...
