Tony “make it slick” Scott is great doing the action scenes but has no idea how to harness the Eddie, he never really hits the same energy as the original but baby it could be a lot worse.

A ridiculously silly set-up ("Hey Foley, I'm gonna have to put off that fishing trip we planned") gives way to a so-so action film, which ultimately seems to exist to give Murphy a revue of skits to smart-arse his way through. Often hit with charges of misogyny, it's arguable that anyone not named Axel Foley in this film is given the humiliation treatment at the expense of its star. A passable effort, strangely lacking the welcome kinetic energy that Scott usually brings to his films.

Beverley Hills Cop II was regarded by many as a major step down from its predecessor, and although this sequel isn't as good as the first film, it's still humorous and enjoyable. Eddie Murphy returns to his signature role and he effortlessly carries this film with his exuberant charisma and flamboyant humour. Judge Reinhold & John Ashton are great once again also. Tony Scott focuses more on action as apposed to comedy, but that's not to say that this film doesn't have its fare share of laughs.

Although it's a sequel, it does have less of the forced storyline and more of the feel of a friend returning for a new chapter. Comic moments and some action shots that are still impressive today.

A much more boring sequel that puts far more emphasis on Axel's whole thing of deceiving others and that joke starts to get super tiring after a certain point. It has some fun spots with its supporting cast but I don't think this lands on anything all too exciting.

At 17, this felt new: a high production quality (slick) action flick w/ quality comedy but it didn't hold up This shouldn't surprise me as, unlike other films, I'd never watched it again - until now. Only a few of Murphy's jokes worked for me this time which only highlighted how implausible many of his schemes to gain entry into places seem. I was also much more aware that the story's full of plotholes & contrivances (why would the bad guys immediately go to Hef's party after a failed heist?)

It doesn't quite have the magic that the first one did, but it's still just as effortlessly fun. Murphy, Reinhold, and Ashton make an amazing trio. I loved the way they fleshed out Reinhold's character in particular. The score is still delightfully bouncy. If you're going to watch the first one then you might as well settle in for a double feature. Rarely do they ever make sequels as good as this one.

It didn't really top on the first one. It falls into the statement where, "Sometimes sequels never live up to the original". There were still good moments, not as good as the previous one or exceeded some expectations.

Viewed February 19, 2022. I can’t say with certainty that I like this better than the first Beverly Hills Cop movie, but it certainly benefits from Eddie Murphy’s improvement as an actor (unlike in the first film, he sounds natural when delivering exposition) and from Tony Scott’s going full The Last Boy Scout mode, prettying up the familiar beats of a studio comedy in his sun-drenched visual style.

I think I slightly prefer this to the original because it reminds me of the It's Always Sunny "Lethal Weapon" movies. Splicing some non sequitur Danny DeVito ass in there would add about 20 points.

This was good. Rating this lower only because this is the exact same story line as the first just replace the drugs with weapons. The female Villain in this movie was a lot better than the villain in the first movie. I liked her the most in this movie. Take her out and I would give this movie a 0.

Rewatched for the first time since it was in the theaters. As a police procedural, BHC2 is nonsense. But, the first 2/3 of the movie is surprisingly funny. The climax is a lesson in incompetent direction. I guess it taught Tony Scott how not to shoot an action sequence.

I put off seeing this movie for 30 years, knowing it was always going to be inferior to the original. But this is just atrocious. And so disturbingly misogynist. The time for movies like this is long gone. Thank god.

Like The Golden Child, B.H.C II found Murphy basking in his superstar glory, performing with a confidence hitherto unseen. Scott was in a similar position. After hitting it big with Top Gun, he really cemented his reputation as the premiere action auteur of the modern age with B.H.C II, a slick and stylish work of mass entertainment. While it isn't as funny or fresh as the original, it's a considerable improvement on all other fronts featuring more explosive action and a harder edge.

Eddie Murphy returning as "Axel Foley" feels like an old friend coming back to town, if not always under the best circumstances. In classic sequel fashion, the original's story of Detroit's own "Axel Foley" going to Beverly Hills to avenge a friend, is simply tweaked and rehashed. However, the film does restrain itself from getting too much bigger and dumber than the first movie as the returning cast maintains a lot of the film's charm.

No more interesting relationships between Axel and anyone in this one. He has carte blanche to do whatever he wants while his yesmen lackeys lose most of the good will they built up in the first film (Reinhold's character is especially obnoxious in this one). The villains just kinda do their own thing, aren't very good on screen, and the final showdown is way weaker than in BH1. Much less funny, too--*shoots chick* "women, right?" Paul Reiser's dumb subplot is kinda fun, and heh @ weird cameos.

Eddie and the Beverly Hills gang return in this sequal where Foley's friend is shot after investigating an arms selling scheme. He teams back up with his two Beverly Hills detective buddies to try and save their captain. The casting was kicked up a notch in this movie probably based on the success of the first movie. There is a healthy dose of 80's comics and some other notables like Hugh Hefner. This Tony Scott directed action comedy has maybe one of the most intriguing cases for the ge

It is basically the same thing as the first film, but the sequel benefits from not needing to spend its first act on introductory sequences. Murphy is still energetic, Ashton is still the much-needed wet blanket, and they took an oddly silly-played-straight turn with Reinhold.

Seems to me like a hastily-assembled romp where all the major players phone in their parts, the character actors look pleased to be there, and everything is amped up with gratuitous gunshots, glass-breaks and explosions. Also there is some seriously sloppy directing and editing which spoils several action scenes. In other words, a typical Michael Bay / Tony Scott cash-in sequel. Most anyone could do a better job with the same material.

I should probably flunk this on account of the uninteresting story and not harnessing Murphy's fast-talking skills nearly as well as the original, but I have a massive weakness for this kind of 80s vibe, synth score and all. In fact, the music is the best part of the movie. Jürgen Prochnow is also entertaining (if underused) as the villain. I'm also amused by the gratuitous strip club scene.

This is more action heavy than the original film and a bit weaker on most areas. Faltermayer’s score is good, but the soundtrack lacks the hits. Cast is still good, but this re-watch made it clear how nonsensical the screenplay is even on action standards. Tony Scott was probably too serious pick as the director, but the sequel is clearly more stylish than the original and visually it set the template for later actions films by Michael Bay etc.
