Who's afraid of the big bad Wolf? Not Jason Shepherd (Muniz), who has to prove that sleazy Hollywood producer Marty Wolf (Giamatti) stole his class paper and turned into a blockbuster hit movie called Big Fat Liar. (Universal)

This is the VAMPIRE'S KISS of Paul Giamatti's filmography. He gives far more than what is required, and creates sustained moments of slapstick transcendence in an otherwise serviceable '00s tween comedy.

Universal was bored one day and decided to take a shot at making a kids movie. They should have just let the Disney channel take of this for them. Maybe okay for a Saturday morning cartoon time movie.

Almost like WORKING GIRL for kids is bland but likable enough, though there’s a pantomime style to the adult performers that becomes somewhat grating, especially during the extended takedown of Giamatti towards the end. Muniz and Bynes are fine, and Giamatti seems to be enjoying himself, but his teeth gnashing villain is almost too easy a target, and because the film establishes a reality not remotely consistent or plausible, it becomes impossible to become truly invested in the goings on.

It's got Giamatti in it, and that's the only good thing really.

Everyone in this film is completely unlikable. Even Paul Giamatti, a normally great actor, is nearly unwatchable in this trash. It's just laughably bad. The writing is some of the worst I've seen, even for a kid's movie. This might be one better to let die.

I remember watching this back in the day on HBO with my family, one of those serene childhood memories that would be quite ordinary if it didn't happen when you were a kid with your family. blue paul giamatti

Yeah, I saw it. Paul Giamatti, normally a terrific actor, was not wise for choosing to do this film. It's one annoying prank after another, and it gets very stupid, relying a lot on cameos and weak one liners for humor. I also had my fill of Frankie Muniz's snotty character about six seconds into the film. Utter crapulence!

It's not a film to be taken seriously as the number of plot holes and 'why didn't he just' moments is through the roof. It feels like it pulls from movies like Home Alone or The Wizard, but not in a satisfying way, even with all the celebrities. It's below okay- kind of in that area where I just wish it was written better.

Passable family entertainment I suppose. Like, Paul Giamatti hamming it up is the only saving grace if you're above the age of 10 but as a film it's not exactly incompetent - it hits the necessary big moments but overall it's just a little flat. The amount of product placement/general promotion for Universal studios is ridiculous though. Average film. If you have a ten year old kid who just loves early-00s Nickelodeon they'll get a kick out of it?

I haven't seen first ~20 minutes, but the rest is mostly ok. The main heroine looks too much mature for her age and the boy, on the other side, acts too smart. As a duo, according to a script, they are doing fine. It's one of those movies which says to believe in your child / that parents are the most important to a child or teenager (THEY ARE NOT) / that kids shouldn't lie. The best part of the movie is blue, if you know what I mean. Also, the scene in a wardrobe is awesome. Watchable.

This is certainly a movie made in the early 00's, that's for sure. I wasn't a fan of any of these people at the time and the fact that none of them are still working proves to me that I was correct about all these actors.

Big Fat Liar is a kids film for sure. Some of the humor is scattershot and hit or miss. However Between Amanda Bynes' terrific work and a legend like Paul Giamatti taking on a villainous role. There is plenty to enjoy in this early 2000s Hollywood adventure.
