Bill Preston and Ted Logan are two totally excellent dudes facing one most heinous history exam. With the help of Rufus an ultra-cool messenger in a time traveling phone booth, the triumphant twosome bag a bevy of historical heavy weights like the "Bodacious Philosopher Socrates, "One Very Excellent Barbarian" Genghis Khan, the "Short Dead Dude" Napoleon and Noah's Wife Joan of Arc to stage the most hysterical high school project ever. History's about to be rewritten by two guys who can't even spell. (MGM)

Shaggy comedy is fitfully amusing (a stoner comedy without the stone), and gets much of its juice from well-cast Winter and Reeves making these two lunkheads lovable, but the seriously stupid and at times incoherent screenplay lets them down; would have been nice to see these two guys in an adventure that was at least a little more switched on than they are! Perhaps as a nod to BACK TO THE FUTURE, it is funny to see the blast through time travel paradoxes by simply not dealing with them at all!

Great fun! It's just impossible not to be charmed by the two leads in spite of and because of their dim witted existences. But underneath the simplistic core narrative lies a very cleverly written time travel flick with some great comedic performances. Billy the Kid and Socrates trying to pick up girls before getting cock blocked by Freud's analytical creepiness is a scene that always makes me laugh. How can you not love a movie that wants us to"Be Excellent to Each Other" and "Party On Dudes"!?

This film has its moments and more than a few clever jokes. I appreciate it for its creativity, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to force myself to finish it. The only real fault of this film is the 80s Hollywood cheese factor, and sometimes it's just too overbearing. It's a great premise for a film. I hope Face the Music eventually gets made, since that idea, minus the cheese, would make for a most excellent film.
