Based on a true story, but feeling more like a genial riff on WALL STREET (especially one blatant needle drop), this is at its best in the first half as a flagrant wallow in the greasily seductive capitalist porn that you can only get from the 80s; while Spacey is no Gekko, he is the highlight of a decent cast and great fun as the slimy mentor. Develops along familiar lines as the downfall plays out, and that's the major problem: it's overall air of familiarity.

Kevin Spacey is the best part about this movie, and the scenes with him in them are good. Unfortunately, Ansel Elgort is a poor choice for lead roles, and he drags the movie down despite good production value. Overall, it's an unremarkable crime thriller. You're better off watching Boiler room instead, or Wall Street.

If you're into depressing movies, this is for you. Major downer.

Pretty shallow. It doesn't show much of the criminal or the emotional/personal side of the story.

okay movie

The story of BBC (not the British news station nor a XL black dong) is quite thrilling, apart from the cliche ponzi scheme theme. Sadly I haven't watched the original which should 'feel' extremely 80s, perhaps the better overall experience as this version just doesn't cut it. The script is clunky, acting shoddy, the two leads miscast and the cherry on top: Spacey who couldn't have a more fitting last role. Like a kid in a candy shop. Overall the story itself makes it worth a watch. Okayish film.
