After so many duds under their belt, the DCEU is a masterwork of squandering a rich world of decades of stories already pre-penned, just ripe for the taking. But, as it happens, "Birds of Prey" is just about the least of the offenders. It still suffers from a lack of a cohesiveness and direction, but far, far less than "Suicide Squad". It's a fairly fun, relatively grounded, and gaudy crime flick disguised as a comic book movie, which is something I had no idea I wanted.

An extremely fun piece of day-glo riot grrl madcap nonsense that far exceeded my expectations. Suffers from covering a lot of the same ground as the far superior Harley animated series that’s airing now, but the performances are great - Robbie is as charismatic as ever, Winstead is a winner, and McGregor chews the scenery to shreds in a delightful way - the script is funny, and the action set-pieces are mostly a blast. Healthy dose of feminism is handled perfectly.

I didn't think it was too bad. I do think they should have elaborated on Black Mask's motives a little more, Huntress was written weird, and Zsasz was the real miscast here. Other than that, it's a decently fun time, and Robbie is as excellent as ever as Harley Quinn. I also enjoyed Bell as Black Canary, and McGregor is delightfully over the top at times in my opinion. Not at all one of DC's best or most story-driven films, but nowhere near as bad as I thought it'd be.

It's not going to win any points for coherence, or subtlety, or good taste, but that's kinda what Harley Quinn is about. The closest superhero proxy, actually, is Punisher: War Zone, an underrated gem also directed by a woman that leans into its inherent excess, without diminishing its comic(/animated series) origins with a false pretense of class. We're given poop jokes and broken kneecaps and a pass on the Bechdel test. That's two for two and Why the Fuck is that extra credit?

Entirely Harley Queen centric movie; Colourful, unstable, fantabulous point of view of Harley provides an entertaining, joyous, unique, tangled watch throughout the movie, but that also makes other characters trivial in a movie called Birds of Prey! They are blended in the story, mostly inaccurete compered to the comics and couldn't get the chance of focus they deserve.. Neverthless it's a different, fresh take on CB adaptations, the genre needs such efforts..

A fun guilty pleasure with the marvelous Margot Robbie in her most outrageous Harley Quinn role. This story is every bit as psychopathic as the Joker back story. She is super campy and over the top, but hilariously badass and charmed. She has so much fun with the role that it seems infectious. Excellent SFX and music. McGregor is overly silly, but there is so much fun to be had with this crazy movie. Worthwhile, but be in the mood for mayhem.

The film's few hiccups (the rewind conceit never works, some plot points are very contrived, and Basco is rarely believable) hardly detract from the colourful, exhilarating combat (I absolutely loved the creative choreography) and prominent message of empowerment, points enhanced by a fun cast, great tunes, and some surprisingly poignant moments.

The fight choreography (despite a lame soundtrack) is often fantastic & Robbie manages to make Harley likable even though the comedy that might make such an annoying character fun is at the MTV Awards level. There's also the constant message that men are chauvinists/rapists: McGregor's sociopath isn't truly evil until we see him humiliate a woman. The misandrist-like "wokeness" of Robbie insisting on all female creators even though ALL the heroines were created & popularized by men says a lot.

I mean tacos. It's official, Warner and DC have NO ideas. In our 431 seat IMAX theatre, including us 2, there were 5 people there. Opening weekend. Box. Office. Bomb.

Absolutely fantastic piece of comic book adventure with amazing set pieces, well written characters who adhere to no rules and keep things moving quickly. A fun go around with Harley Quinn as she attempts life without The Joker. Every new addition was fantastic as well and adds a new element to the extended universe that exists. It does not try to drag things out at a cool crisp 1hr49mins it has zero time to let up on the gas and that helps you keep focused on the end result.

Wow what a disappointing pile of shit this ended up being. The acting stinks, the action sucks, the soundtrack is annoying, the villain is weak, and the dialogue was cringe worthy. Why is this so bad? I'm not really a fan of the absurdist comic book action films and I really didn't like Deadpool or Deadpool 2 but this was like the worst parts of those mixed with the worst parts of Suicide Squad.

I like Mentaculus' point about how Harley Quinn isn't about coherence or subtlety or good taste. In that sense, I look at this as the Katy Perry of comic book movies; it's just tasteless enough to be entertaining without going too far overboard. Hopefully they'll be able to do some stuff to expand upon the Birds of Prey, especially with Mary Elizabeth Winstead. This is DC's answer to Deadpool and while it certainly isn't on Deadpool's level as entertainment or cinema, I do want to see more!

A comic book movie that is about the street level problems of its protagonists instead of the fate of the world. Like her comic book version, Margot Robbie once again brings tons of fun the the grim world of Batman and while her narration is, deliberately, all over the place, the movie is whacky, loud and entertaining throughout. The action sequences are probably the best in any DC/Marvel movie.

It's a little too scatter-brained to be a good film, but what Birds of Prey does well is capture the chaotic point-of-view of Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn. What it lacks in substance or refinement it mostly makes up for in its frenetic, frenzied editing and pure fun.

Going against the early grain a little bit, I adored this. It's like Tarantino, Wright and the DC cartoons got thrown in a blender and turned into a glorious, electrifying mess. This movie moves, it's directed delightfully and it gets the most out of Robbie and McGregor's manic charm. It needs a dash more Winstead, but while this is far from DC's Best it's easily my favorite DC movie in a long, long time.

This movie was crisp and colorful fun. Most of the criticism I hear is based on departures from source material, but I'm not super versed in Birds of Prey comics so I was able to enjoy it at face value. Robbie and McGregor are my favorites here, absolutely nailing their schizophrenic roles. Smollett is beautiful and supplies an emotional anchor. The frenetic action is terrifically captured and choreographed and the humor hits more than it misses.

Basically a demented R-rated Charlie's Angels that's a bit too teen-edgy for my tast, but it does take the style set up in Suicide Squad and turns it into a coherent story that fits the tone infinitely better than the predecessors "fighting faceless cgi goons to stop a world ending sky beam" "plot" so... points for that.

It's a little messy and all-over-the-place but so are hyenas and heartbreak and Harley herself, so it all kinda works. The film does well to present its protagonist with all her charming quirks and real imperfections, and the only non-gore related cringe comes from the supersonic scream (a weird moment in what is otherwise more a wacky crime flick than a superhero one). Always engaging, with great action and a colourful cast of characters (The Huntress was a definite comedic highlight).

Birds of Prey had a lot of fun moments but there were moments of sweetness. I find that DC movies tend to be filled with more cerebral topics than Marvel movies. The best thing about Birds of Prey is that it makes women the center of the whole movie. The unlikely group that comes together to form the Birds of Prey are all badasses and I would love to see them do more with them, sadly I don't think that is going to happen. It was good to see Rosie Perez back in a large role. I'll watch it again.

Easily one of the better DCEU movies (that's not saying much). Good variety of set pieces but individual fights could have been trimmed for repetition (common with superhero films). Smollett-Bell stood out in a cast of beautiful women; MEW was disappointingly minor. The movie was inconsistent. I liked the feminist gaze in shots. Fav scenes: MEW going down the slide; Robbie skate-fighting in the rotating clownhouse platform.

It feels like 3 movies in one. An interesting start with the setting, a suddenly confusing hunt for a diamond, and a weak ending that feels rushed and botched. One is still smoothing out what it took to process the transition from a quirky start to their hunting theme when the end chapter starts up. It's like they went "oh crap, the girls need to be together before the end!" and force the character together. It can still be entertaining though

While not written by the same writer as Suicide Squad, it suffers from some of the same issues, though not nearly as badly; most notably, Robbie is great as Quinn but the material just doesn't give her enough good stuff to work with. It comes across more as corny than anything else more than I would have liked. But it was still a fun enough film, just really insubstantial and unmemorable. Okay action, some decent jokes, underused secondary characters. Deserves better.

I'm a sucker for an all female cast and director. That being said, I really liked this movie. Robbie steals the show as you'd expect. They didn't necessarily need to make this a BOP movie, considering It's mostly about Harley. I did really like Black Canary and Huntress though. You don't get to see much of Winstead, but I liked the character and her portrayal. The writing for the most part was pretty solid, and the fight scenes were well-choreographed. Definitely one of the better dcu movies.

The title is an indicator of how exhausting this film is. There should have been an intermission, even though it is under 2 hours, because I really needed to stretch my legs and recharge. Harley Quinn has a real Urkel-like "Did I do that?" reaction to everything.

Obviously, the title should have just been Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey or something, since the actual Birds themselves play a much smaller role than Harley, but a bad title doesn't ruin a movie. There's one thing that really bugs me about this movie, and it's the editing, at least for the first two acts, which feel really sloppy. The story itself isn't terrible, but it's not particularly remarkable either. Elements are good, Margot and Ewan are fantastic in their roles. R rating was good.

Things to love about this: beautiful production design, fun costuming, and innovative fight choreography. Overall it's just nicely stylized and reminded me of a cross between Kill Bill and Deadpool. Loved the characters, the direction, the cast and just like the overt *girliness* of this in the best way possible. Such a fun ride, that looked really good. Can't really think of anything I did enjoy... the story was lackluster. None of the characters were endearing in any shape. There was too much violence/action/language just for the sake of it without contributing to the plot. I felt like Harley's voice over accent was too different than from her usual lines in the movie. Spirited, light-hearted comic book movie (and jovial riff on KILL BILL) is a breath of fresh air for the modern genre - everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, following the infectious tone of Robbie's charming lead performance (and a welcome return of an off-the-hook Perez). More heedless energy in a sometimes clunky mid-section would have been nice, and a preening McGregor lacks the genuine menace of a true villain, but this is not enough to sink this sincere celebration of "Girl Power"!

Margot Robbie plays a seemingly ditzy woman who goes through a lot of costume changes, dances and learns about the dynamics between men and women. Weird seeing this after Barbie. BOP is mostly uneven. There's fun violence, colours and Robbie clearly having fun with it. On the other hand, the story is extremely flimsy and the characters are barely there. Ewan McGregor seems to be mimicking Gary Oldman in Leon while dressed up as Bono. He is so awful he single-handedly drags down the whole movie.

Birds of Prey is a badly written film that is still making character introductions past the half-way mark. The editing is also quite messy, with an over-reliance on exposition, flashbacks and narration that tepidly breaks the 4th wall, perhaps to conceal the paper thin plot. Most of the characters have better incarnations elsewhere, so they don't form definitive versions. The one scene that stood out (positively), was the fight scene at the fairground. Otherwise just a mediocre movie.

Margot Robbie and the excellent action sequences are the highlights of this. Unfortunately, this film lacks coherency and consistency in every other aspect. They really went for the Deadpool angle with this and it just doesn't work when you have this many subplots to balance, ironically it feels a lot like a sequel to Suicide Squad.
