Uneven, So much potential yet somehow dissapointing. Great acting all around here, especially Weaving.

Great cinematography, good screenplay, good acting but mediocre editing, doesn't live through the feelings. It is not a big problem though, just at some scenes. It touches on a subject not mentioned a lot, and opened a door I never knew existed, so overall a good experience.

This movie does a good job of showing the extreme suffering of the people during the Irish famine, alongside the brutality of British rule. The returning son becomes a warrior of vengeance against the oppressors. Spoken Irish, often missing subtitles, obfuscates some of the dialogue. Lots of period atmosphere and good scenery. Very good but sometimes stoic acting performances. The plot was an interesting and engaging revenge plot with complicated characters. Well worth watching

Filmin sonunda, herkesten intikam alınıp, halk geçici 1 başarı kazanıyor. Birini ben öldürsem cinayet derler. Onlar öldürse savaş.

An Irish revenant with lots of barren, eerie landscapes that immerses you in the setting while gracefully setting up the stakes for the revenge plot. also manages to sidesteps cliché and generic plot points to offer a few unexpected moments

They switch between English and Irish repeatedly, relying too heavily on that aspect for the character development and storytelling. The decision on whether to translate or not, however seems to have been made with only requirements of the plot in mind. Assisted by the theatrical, not to say hokey, staging, what was meant to be the main expressive tool thereby becomes rather a hindrance for empathy. Eventually, the movie's repetitive simplicity just doesn't survive a more detached sight.

The movie itself was fine, but it was cheapened by the sound and music guy who thought it was a horror movie.

C - Enjoyable revenge western (essentially) despite being set in Famine-era Ireland. Reminded me a lot of Blaxploitation films, and stuck to a very straight narrative. Performances were good, and the characters well drawn. Nice use of the Irish language, even to good comedic effect in one scene.

I like this film. Go and give it a whirl. Hugo is such a grand actor.
