Plays out pretty much as expected, with all the obvious jokes of Lawrence's fish-out-of-water in olden times, but defies expectations in its genial, amiable nature, and its scattering of genuine pearls amongst the familiarity, especially an unusually scruffy Wilkinson (is “Knolte” a reference to Nick?) Never thought I’d emerge from this wishing for a Wilkinson-Lawrence buddy comedy; bonus points for its scrapping of nearly all exposition and jumping straight into its premise post haste.

Ebonics talkin' black man sent back in time. Everything but hilarity ensues as tired jokes, already beaten into the ground in previous movies with this "style" of humour, try to make up for a bad idea for a film.

My friends and I have a running joke. Whenever we go into the movie place we always suggest this to AngryFriend (this is a pseudonym) and try to explain to him how it is a play on words because of the story of the Black Knight and how Martin Lawrence is black and becomes a knight in the film. Needless to say he gets angry at us. This is why this film has an unusually high score.
