This movie can't decide what it wants to be, like a lot of martial arts movies these days. So much potential, so little focus. Oh well.

Li is likeable, but not charismatic enough to pull off saving this threadbare adventure from collapsing.

Like all reasonable good Jet Li movies, this is really a love story. A man in love with kicking ass.

Mediocre action film. Several creative fight scenes from Jet Li make it worth a watch.

I dunno why this flick gets such a bad rep. It's Jet Li fucking people up, how can that not be awesome?

It's a super intense action film in which Jet Li is more unstoppable than ever, and it's super cool. Really good!

Yuen Woo-Ping's action is fine, and the film is shot cooler-than-cool, with tons of blues and lots of style to spare. Tsui Hark produced this excellent HK flick. That's what turns all of Jet's films into the same sort of experience; Black Mask is no exception. That said, this film still has plenty more to recommend it, including the cool cinematography and good turns by Karen Mok, Lau Ching-Wan, and Francoise Yip as Jet's pupil turned enemy.

This is formulaic but I guess sometimes a formula works.

Li is playing a superhero version of Lee's Kato, trying to appease western audiences, fighting a squad of killers "without feelings" (They probably weren't quite clear on which "feelings" as they differ throughout). Chow Yun-Fat is replaced by another Chinese, as if we wouldn't notice, and his 'coolness' suffers. Poor direction and no regard to sound mix ruined fight scenes otherwise showing potential of legendary Yuen Woo-Ping. Fun Fact: Futurama's Bender makes a surprising cameo as a bad guy!

This is a bad movie, but I'm a sucker for Jet Li and his corrugated cardboard mask, so I'm not gonna rank it too terribly.

Cartoonish and juvenile. Would be ideal for children if it didn't have so much gore.

Big style, lots of action, some giggles. The fun is sometimes a tickle hollow, & the action sometimes difficult to follow. Jet & fellow gal costars are plenty cute, the dubbing requires some initial adjustment, cool fun.

Jet Li is great in this action film. There are plenty of exciting action scenes and moments. The script is average but the action in the film makes up for it. Overall I would recommend this film.

This is one crazy fucking film. Once it gets going, it's basically one long action sequence with hip hop beats laid under it. That could be exhausting, but this film is creative and weird enough to sustain it. There's a tendency for the film's hyperactive style to undercut Yuen Woo-Ping's fight choreography, but not entirely. A lot of it gets across, especially in the lengthy climactic fight that sees Li fight Xin Xin Xiong for at least 15 minutes.

As expected, cliched, shallow characters and plot. But there are a few great action scenes. I didn't get any satisfaction from the movie until the last 30 minutes or so because that final fight scene is really enjoyable and well choreographed.

Never quite manages to approach interesting. The fight sequences weren't bad.
