Wages of Fear UNDERWATER! Decent class-and-claustrophobia thriller that falls to the temptation of having people act like complete idiots to create conflict. Relates to "Das Boot" much like, well, the techno remix of "Das Boot".

A surprisingly exciting and unpredictable ride. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but the claustrophobic submarine setting, the tonally dark plot machinations, and Jude Law's charmismatic performance add up to a solid movie.

Black Sea is a microcosm of the ugly nature of capitalism and devaluation of hard labor in America. ala the classic film Wages of Fear. The characters are driven by a delusional and broken idea of the American dream. However, they are written in such a black and white manner that it mars the potential complexities of the seemingly otherwise well-nuanced plot. It establishes a brooding claustrophobic tension and culminates it with lackluster cheap thrills time and time again. The CG is also bad.

I would have given it a different ending but this one was ok. An overall decent film well anchored by Law.

Pretty good film until the writers try to decide how many things they can do to a sub and the poor slobs in it for the last 30 mins or so.

Surprisingly unsucky adventure with a bunch of unfit and out of work submarine crew members led by Jude Law trying to recover a bunch of gold at the bottom of the Black Sea. Well, hell, if you describe it that way, I couldn't say no. Kept me well entertained throughout. If sub movies or war movies are up your alley, then there's no reason this one should go under the radar.

overall arc is a little neat/sentimental and the score is pretty dumb, but man i had a blast with this underwater riff on WAGES OF FEAR/...SIERRA MADRE. the physicality of it, the emphasis on process and the practical requirements for maintaining it, the righteous fury and gallows humour that can only blossom in the gutter. the russian grabbing jude law by the scruff of the neck and just lurching his head into his chest again and again in grief and despair. that's what i want out of movies.

Very good performance from Jude Law. Worth watching, some good suspense, but a fairly crappy ending.

Best submarine film I've seen in years. Jude Law's performance is outstanding. Intense, unpredictable story.

Poor plot with some unsatisfying turns. Jude Law made an admirable attempt to breath some life into it. There are a couple characters you will want to hate. A few good high tension scenes, a juicy treasure plot, a twisty plot turn, but several characters & their motivations were ill conceived & unconvincing, making for one too many unnatural disasters & one too many we won't kill you because we need you story arcs. The ending was also a let down.

Interested

A gripping, immersive ride! The story is quite hammy and the plot developments all rather obvious, which lends a B-movie feel to proceedings. This would be a flaw, if it weren't for Kevin Macdonald's willingness to embrace the silliness and rely on his considerable directorial skill in harnessing the sets, lighting and sound to create a spiralling pressure-cooker of tension. Jude Law is a good man to have on board for this kind of operation, and his grizzled companions look and act the part too.

I know it's on a submarine, but heck, does it have to be that dark the whole time? Poor story with a poor development. It was written all over. *Bad

11 men and a psycopath think it would be a great idea to go down in a submarine in order to raise some long lost Nazi gold, but guess what? Things go wrong. I know, who would have thought? The strength of BS is a gripping story that (apart from the CGI on the extermal submarine shots) is terrifically well made: claustrophobic, tense and gripping. The weakness is the rather draft premise that a disparate group of ne'erdowells, who seem to hate each other, would EVER get together on such a misson

Poor writing caused this ship sank.

I thought that they don't make films like these anymore. So, It was refreshing to see an old-fashioned men on a mission flick with a touch of "Treasure of Sierra Madre". It's not perfect of course and I can totally understand why a gritty submarine flick with a cast full of men didn't really break any box office records, but it's still a quality flick which should be seen by a bigger audience. Solid cast and plus points for having actual russian actors in the cast.

the worst of Ocean's 11 on a submarine, pretty bad, a few blurry flashbacks to Jude Law's estranged wife

not boring, good, but didn't overwhelm me. Jude Law seems different in this movie, but well acted.

none of the team mates should be even slightly an enemy, (just like seen in the movie Burnt) & in this extremely contained & zero mistakes demanding situation, it is proven to be fatal

not bad but not memorable

This is a decent old school submarine flick. The effects are solid as well as the acting. The main problem is that the film focuses on the dark and gritty elements instead of suspense.
