Black Snake

Decent Blaxploitation film from Meyer. Unique setting out on location in the Caribbean. Typical for Meyer to have a Matriarchal, well breasted, sugar cane owner as the key antagonist. Sticks to the standard format of the genre with elevated dialogue, touching on Meyer's sexploitation roots & some original although rushed sequences (ie. the black snake in the bath). Had a few dicey choices in flashbacks, maybe a lift out of another film (the shark) & dual layer visuals but I'll give them a pass.

The characters in this Blaxploitation are over-the-top, and it's filled with violence. Not a big surprise because whips (Blacksnake) are the persona of the film. Blacksnake is not the movie you want to watch if you are looking for a typical Russ Meyer film.
