In the distant technological future, civilization has reached its ultimate Net-based form. An "infection" in the past caused the automated systems to spiral out of order, resulting in a multi-leveled city structure that replicates itself infinitely in all directions. Now humanity has lost access to the city's controls, and is hunted down and purged by the defense system known as the Safeguard. (imdb)

I really enjoy the idea of a city without end, where the builders just keep building shit, and I wish we could have explored more of that. The world is more interesting than what is happening in it, but it's still exciting enough. I do love the animation, which ties into loving the way the world is constructed. Some really dopey/wonky lines and delivery, but some cool musical cues, which in context of the movie add a new dimension. A little confusing in the beginning as well.

Loved the setting, the design of the world. The humans are haunted by a system that they don't control anymore, that has as only purpose an infinite growth without any meaning. We don't have time to know the characters but it's enough to care about them. I don't read manga but maybe i'll read this one.

We should give the film makers some credit for trying to adapt something that is nearly unadaptable.

Trailer was pretty good. Nothing that tests any boundaries in the actual film itself to make it worth your time.

With a great visual style and the music perfectly scoring the battles every fight is intense. There is not much in the way of character development but there really does not need to be. The action and pacing make it a cool adventure through an interesting setting.

Another dystopian future anime. Somethin I generally like, so the premise was promising (again). But too much of this is characters walking around gloomy and depressed delivering sci-fi gibberish. And there are too little enjoyable action sequences to make up for the lack of wel written characters. The world building is interesting and there are some enjoyable moments especially in the beginning and end, but overal this was a bit of a disappointment.

Despite some animation problems the movie manages to pull you into its clever setting and has just enough action and characters to keep up the tension until the end.

Some of the world building is interesting, even if the characterizations and plotting are not, and the mechanical designs are pretty cool, but these 3D models rendered in a low framerate typical of anime look like absolute garbage.

Hard to follow if you are not already a fan of the original manga.

Good but not great. CG at anime frame-rates looks choppy. Also, the movie goes for cheap Moe heroine. Despite all this negativity, the premise is great. The action is fast and powerful. The Gravity Beam Emitter sounds so good. It is a great advertisement for the source material. I wish we could see an honourable adaptation of the original anime, with better (or no) CG.

Stylish sci-fi animation. Enchanting, though not entirely thrilling. Hardly my favorite genre, I was still satisfied.
