This was nuts! Hauer was a good casting choice. Laughed regularly...equally from intentional and unintentional humor. Action was surprisingly not bad. I view it less as a zatoichi remake and more of an 80s steeped parody.

An American blinded in Vietnam, taken in by Laotians and trained in Japanese swordfighting techniques. After chopping up some thugs in Miami, husking some corn in Middle Earth, and bifurcating a bee beside a babbling brook, Hauer drives a delivery van into oncoming traffic to save a desert meth cook from an evil Texan. What is there not to love?

The fight scenes are entertaining, but the rest is typical action movie melodrama with bad acting. The amusing premise is just about enough to carry the film, barely.

I didn't actually see this movie, but after reading the synopsis I feel as though I know far to much about this movie.

A cute Americanized version of Zatoichi.

Pretty enjoyable; it has some laughs, and the idea of a modern, American version of Zatoichi existing is awesomely ridiculous.

Fairly good representation of ridiculous 1980's film. It makes no case to be anything other than goofy fun. Not good, but not bad either.

He may be blind, but Nick Parker (Rutger Hauer) has a way with a sword. The Vietnam vet pays a visit to an old war buddy, Frank Deveraux (Terrance O'Quinn), only to discover that his friend is in deep trouble. Gangsters have killed Frank's wife (Meg Foster) and are holding him hostage in Reno, Nev. Making a narrow escape with Frank's young son (Brandon Call), Nick heads across the country to even the score. Needless to say, his opponents underestimate him -- and his sword skills.

I did not like the movie when I saw it in early 90's and I did not like it when it came from TV in 2011. Rutger Hauer is terrible comedy actor. He just cannot not. Movie was acceptable time after time, when Hauer did not twist his face and tried to be funny. Extra points for Lost's Locke (Terry O'Quinn). It was funny to see him with hair on.

I would have wanted Rutger Hauer to be my new dad as well. I think if Rutger had just watched The Stepfather he wouldn't have left the kid with that guy.

Watch the fight scene between Rutger Hauer and Sho Kosugi at the end. That is how an action scene should be shot.

Dumb, but entertaining, if that's the only thing that's on. And you're drunk. And too lazy to change the channel.

2022'de #IzlediğimFilmler ; 72. Blind Fury (1989) Black Eagle'dan Shô Kosugi 'ye bakarken bu filme denk gelince izlememek olmazdı. Muhteşem bir kadro, nefis hafif bir Zatoichi uyarlaması. Klasik.

This is an entertaining action movie. Rutger Hauer does a good job with the lead role here. There are some good actions scenes in this film. Overall I would recommend this film.

Pretty standard 1980s action fare, albeit clearly imitative of the Japanese chanbara franchises "Zatoichi" and "Lone Wolf and Cub". Rutger Hauer shows screen presence in an atypical good-guy role, despite his one-note acting. Otherwise, silly and ineffective.

Heavily influenced by the Samurai film, "Zatoichi Challenged", this B-movie-esque adventure is light on story but high on delightfully silly sword action and comedy that are guaranteed to satisfy.

Hauer has the right sense of humor to make this take on Zatoichi work. The premise is taken for laughs, even if there is plenty of slashing to move the story forward.
