From the moment she was born, Vaysha was a very special girl. With her left eye she can only see into the past, and with her right she can only see the future. The past is familiar and safe, the future is sinister and threatening. The present is a blind spot.

2. Great animation with a short story translated on screen almost word by word from the source material. Which doesn't seem to hurt it in the least - on the contrary, image and words enrich and complete each other, as should be the goal of any animated endeavour.

The concept was muddled and the animation was muddy.

NFB SHORT A DAY #40: Ushev is a great talent and Gospodinov seems like an interesting writer but this didn't work for me. The parable just comes off as silly, and the animation kind of an eyesore. I wonder if it was a mistake to have so faithfully recreated the story--further exploring the 'blindness' might have helped with the hokeyness. I will also note this was Ushev's first Oscar nomination...
