Blood Beach

If instead of being a cult classic, "Tremors"(1990) was made a dry, boring, 70's police drama/50's B-movie creature feature, you would get this turd in the sand. Although, I don't like boring B-movies, they're slow and dull and irritating, and they go nowhere, there are a few low-rent charms buried under the sand here for hardcore Burt Young fans.

Saw part of this on tv as a kid. Can't remember what interfered with me seeing the whole thing, but I finally finished it today. It plays like some weird mashup of '70s police drama & '50s monster movie. Not a bad thing. Plus it's got John Saxon! my favorite horror movie cop. Maybe it is a bit dry, but it kept me well enough entertained.

Viewed on YouTube for free if I had seen this in theaters I would have walked out.

The premise is goofy as fuck, and while the surfer-noir stylization occasionally shines, overall this is pretty disappointing.

BOOOOORRRRRRRRRRIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGG!

This is shockingly not terrible. Pretty tame, pretty bland, and a little bit boring towards the finale, but overall not nearly as awful as it could've been. There's some low-budget charm to be found, the cast is decent, and the story is handled pretty well. The central romance is enjoyable, if unneeded. It's by no means a classic, and it drags way too much for being a 90-ish minute feature, but there's worse out there. If it sounds interesting, give it a shot.

So ... did I hate this? Surprisingly, not really. It has a likeable seedy, rundown beach-in-decline atmosphere that I didn't mind staring at while nothing interesting happened. Oh yeah ... the monster bites a rapist's dick off. That happened.
