Blue Sky

Muddled drama feels too often like two competing narratives uneasily mashed together - Lange's aching portrait of mental dysfunction caused/exacerbated by dislocation as an army wife versus a sinister plot to cover-up a potential nuclear disaster could have made two great movies; as it is, the combination too often feels disjointed and skimpy to both aspects of the screenplay. Jones and Lange are both terrific however, and Snodgress goes to town with her limited support role.

Jessica Lange is good here.

Now here's a good drama for you: Tommy Lee Jones is an army scientist, and Jessica Lange is his wife who's trying to be a one-woman alternative lifestyle. Good last film for Tony Richardson

Lange is the whole show here - a tour de force that commands the screen while the flimsy drama unfolds around her.

Jessica Lange gives a showy but great performance. The Oscar was well-deserved for the role; however, the movie itself is fairly run-of-the-mill.
