It’s Guadagnino’s worst in a hot minute, but still has all the soul customary from him. So many good performances but Russell ends up carrying it beautifully.

I disliked this movie, but I must share the criticism of someone I overheard, which made the entire experience worth it. I wish I was making this up... "This movie was not scientifically realistic! There are not that many cannibals! And the idea that cannibals could smell each other? There's no way! He smelled him coming off the bus? No chance! Plus, I lived in Ann Arbor for 15 years. There were no CANNIBALS working in the book store!"

I don't think it successfully resolves the moral contradictions in its premise, instead ending on a similar feeling to the director's other doomed Chalamet romance. But like the rest of these improbable romantic gestures, it is ecstatic. I can feel the warmth in the lovers embrace. Their terror is undeniable. To harmoniously re-invent the 70s outlaw road trip and the outsider metaphor of a vampire flick just proves that Guadagnino can do anything. One of the best movies of the year.

Great cinematography. The rest is yet another movie too much in love with its own characters. Chalamet and Russell might be cute, hip and in love but in the end they are just a couple of self-obsessed and pretty annoying cannibals.

Okay... this may seem rough, but this is basically Guadagnino's Twilight. Obviously every aspect of this film is miles above the other, with the performances standing out - particularly newcomer Russell in the lead, but the script is pretty uneven, with some dialogue getting dangerously close to those sub-par YA standards of the early 2010s.

*Spoilers ahead* I was honestly expecting more from it, it's just fine. There's nothing particularly remarkable about it. I have a problem with films that have these "luring a gay in, to then kill him" scenes when that's the only gayness in them. Maybe I'm reading too much into but it's clear that Lee is bi, and they show his gay encounter as merely lustful and sexual, devoid of any real meaning, but his straight relationship is the one that actually matters. Idk, that all irked me.

Although this was not a vampire film per se I liked the fresh view of the theme. It was mostly a romantic film but the undertone was a good touch and meaningful in so many different levels.

An eclectic mix of something like "Badlands" and "Let The Right One In" that doesn't quite manage the magic of either. Guadagnino has tons of visual flair in his arsenal at this point and its still a treat to watch despite coming up short with its chemistry and narrative.

Gorier than most YA adaptations, but this is still a YA adaptation. It's embarrassing to see this film try to convince us of the romance between these doomed lovers, which is rather bloodless. The couple of actors do what they can, but can't elevate this skinny material, nor can the fairly cosy road-trip imagery, which is still lacking style. Rylance is excellent -- his shoulders must be sore from lifting so many mediocre films.

Cliched but this is basically just Badlands for the kids. Liked all the cannibalism scenes where they’re shot at certain times with a romanticism. Rylance is off kilter and sinister but feels a bit out of place in this. Michael Stuhlbarg character has a similar vibe but fits better.

Hard to pin down, harder to forget, Guadagnino’s latest more or less splits the difference between Call Me by Your Name and his remake of Suspiria, mixing a dreamy, romantic coming-of-age story set in the recent past with unflinching scenes of bloody carnage. Bones and All doesn’t offer any answers and is all the more haunting for it.

The cinematography is amazing, and the performances are impeccable across the board. The "cannibalism as primal struggle" angle worked for me but I had a hard time taking the love story seriously and can't help by wish that filmmaking of this caliber would've been put to better use.

I'm a bit torn. I enjoyed most of this film a lot. Beautiful story and cinematography. Some of the scenes were just way too graphic though, to the point that I felt sick in the theater.

I couldn't help but feel there was some merit to this film, but it gets lost in its overzealous attempt at being too many different things at once: from a doomed romance to a character study and awkwardly thrown in thriller. By the end, it completely jumps the shark and becomes a laughable parody of itself. Also, we seem to be stuck with Mark Rylance and there's nothing we can do about it.

I give a lot of credit to Russell, Chalamet and Rylance. Honestly though, my favourite part of the movie is the Reznor/Ross OST. There's a lot of artistic fluff (in the way it's shot) pretending like there's something substantial going on, but rip the cannibalism out and what do you have? An okay romance? One that is hard to commit to even without the added barrier of cannibalism? I don't hate this, I could appreciate the prettiness and the stuff mentioned above, but I will forget this soon.

As much as I love horror, I’ve yet to see Luca Guadagnino direct a horror film I’ve liked (although that contortion scene in the Suspira remake was solid). But I don’t know if I’d blame him for this one as much as I’d blame the writing. The horror here is very sparse, with just one decent scene at the end (and not as effective as “Raw”), the romance and characters didn’t work for me at all, and WHY is this over 2 hours? I did like the score, Rylance, and Stuhlbarg. Otherwise felt very empty.

I'm trying to remember the last time I partook in the cannibal sub-genre of romantic dramas. Maybe RAW? This is way better than RAW, this doesn't try to tell you that you'll become a cannibal if you eat meat. Chalamet is such a presence, and I certainly found myself invested in what happened to these characters. Brilliantly shot, well-directed, but I did find the performances sometimes lacking - particularly from Taylor Russell, who I thought was great in "Words on Bathroom Walls". But I dug it!

It’s an obvious take on something like badlands but I couldn’t help but be swayed by the relation to someone like Rohmer. Rohmer but run thru the machine of rural America. Treating Kiss like it’s Nico record with the tender way it’s showcased on screen. By the time Lick it Up starts playing I was basically on nothing but floating vibes. Pure cinema. An ending that slew foots you with its brutality

It's a drama/romance movie with a thin layer of horror slapped on it. The first act is the strongest, after that it sort of stumbles around for the remaining 90 minutes. Not bad anyway

I don't think Guadagnino's approach fits the material, because it all feels like a bunch of hit or miss moments -- the romance doesn't click, but the gory parts seem nice; the road movie feels awesome, but the family melodrama never takes off.

It's ok. Does it work as an addiction metaphor? It's way too stereotypical/ expected. Does it work as a queer allegory? Not really. Taylor Russell is wonderful though, you can't look away from her. In the end this felt like some play-by-numbers 'marginals' love story, but with cannibalism and the actual falling in love happening off screen. Wait... was the cannibalism the falling in love part?

Lord help me, I was quite taken by this film. Though bookended by scenes that betray its YA simplicity, the meat of the movie is a surprisingly lyrical meditation on loneliness, abandonment, and desperation. I dunno, it's just easier to feel these intense emotions when the characters are also dealing with an unquenchable hunger for human flesh.

This was rather conflicting. On one hand, I did really appreciate the movie, with nice writing and the whole midwest setting. Chalamet and Russell were both great and fit the roles, and Mark Rylance just stole the spotlight whenever he was on. But even still, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I feel like it's missing that one piece that would make it click.

If you don't mind the vampire/werewolf cannibals, the movie has some interesting moments. Taylor Russell was terrific in her role. Timothée Chalamet was also good. Mark Rylance was super creepy. The plot was horrific to say that least. I wish they had done better with her mother. Despite their terrifying eating habits, it was easy to become invested in these characters. The ending felt chopped and sloppy. Worth watching, but certainly for adults, and not for squeamish.

This film is a really wonderfully odd blend of elements. It's a "lovers on the run" film like "Badlands", but also a pretty gory cannibal film with a lot of blood, a bit of gore and a handful of really unnerving sequences. I liked it ... a lot. A lot of it is a meditation on addiction and the things one has to do to survive, as well as the joy and terror of discovering people who have the same issues and really understand you.

I wanted to like this movie and there are good parts to the whole, but I ultimately don't think it does anything to resolve its moral ambiguity (cannibalism is ok if you're in love?), nor does it have enough substance to back up the haunting visuals. That said, the visual style is truly arresting, the soundtrack by Reznor and Ross is immaculate, and not enough can be said about two memorable performances - Taylor Russell and an impossibly creepy and villainous Mark Rylance.

Attempts an impossible mashup of coming-of-age romantic road-movie drenched in weepy guitar with cannibal horror, and only succeeds in bringing out all the different genre cliches. I half-expected a stab at shitty black comedy, but instead it wants us to be sad for the killers and moved by their kitschy romance. Belongs in a garbage heap of many Bonnie&Clyde ripoffs of which only The Honeymoon Killers was ever good. Best ever use of Mark Rylance, though Sevigny takes the cake in her tiny role.

While it may not be for everyone, “Bones & All” is a unique and surprising film that showcases the talents of director Luca Guadagnino, lead actress Taylor Russell, and the supporting cast of veteran character actors. The emotional warmth of the film, despite its horror elements, and the chemistry between Russell and Timothée Chalamet make this a standout coming-of-age romance.

Flesh eaters, Guadagnino's latest doomed lovers, after trying the different classed and same sexed. But never mind, since LG applies the same strategy of focusing on the personal, this works as a verite, modern romancer, and it’s the fringe aspect forced upon it by the cannibalism aspect that drags it down, even if it makes for a special -and expected?- finale. Perhaps he should have given cannibalism the same treatment he gave homosexuality in CALL ME BY YOUR NAME? That's hard to picture.

Gorgeous, obviously, as required by a Guadagnino film. And Russell is a raw nerve in the lead. But it feels like it needed one more rewrite; it relies a little too much on tired YA tropes, plays the us-two-against-the-world theme a little too simplistically. Still quite good, but could have turned the screw once or twice more.
