Boo! A Madea Halloween

So this was my first Madea movie. It comes across as if it was written as one draft and acted largely by people who'd heard of movies but hadn't seen one. The only reason it has any score at all is one character who Perry managed to act and write well, Joe

Perry's films are largely unknown outside of the US, where he has made a sizeable fortune. His comedies are post-Murphy Nutty Professor style tomfoolery, replete with OTT black caricatures and heavy handed messages. Perry isn't nearly as talented as Murphy though, and his attempts at play acting multiple characters largely miss. He has no feel for pacing or structure, which results in draggy scenes with no real comic centre, and the humour, for all its brazen racial stereoyping, lacks nerve.

Well then. That was certainly an experience. I have to confess that Cassi Davis made me laugh a few times, but for the most part, this had way too little structure, was way too repetitive, and got weirdly offensive in several ways by the end. I have a sneaking suspicion this movie wasn't exactly made for me.
