Boogie Man is a gripping political thriller about Lee Atwater, a blues-playing rogue whose rambunctious rise from the South to Chairman of the GOP made him a political rock star. He mentored George W. Bush and Karl Rove while leading the Republican party to historic victories, helping make liberal a dirty word, and transforming the way America elects our Presidents.

Yet another study on why it is ludicrous to think of America as a democracy.

Atwater's explanation of the southern strategy remains the single most honest observation in politics of the last few decades, and explains much of the current situation of 'dog-whistle' terminology and empty talking points. If he didn't exist Democrats would have to invent him.

Good coverage on how the sway in popular opinion is architected, pushed on the people & who its designers are. Without Atwater we wouldn't have The Thick of It, House of Cards...Not to the mention the Bush Dynasty.

An fine examination of how the American democracy eroded. What's great about this one is, depressing as it may be, it will leave you with the most satisfactory sense of poetic justice.

Et uhyggeligt portræt af en spindoktor der levede for sin egen karriere, en moderne Faust, der solgte sin sjæl for succes, men kom til at betale en dyr pris.

By all accounts Atwater was 1 of those smug d-bags who prided himself on his ability 2 win by being the bigger sc-m bag. Still, this doc & the many liberal talking heads in it, suggests he singlehandedly brought lying & negative ad campaigns 2 an all-time low. Hard 2 believe. Esp. given the examples of some of his allegedly "racist" breaches. Things r 2 PC when an ad shows us there's a court-approved program letting CONVICTED murderers get weekend furloughs & our biggest problem is its "racism"

This is a very good documentary that attempts to (unsuccessfully for me) humanize Atwater. Yes, Atwater, as the title suggests, was also a blues musician who maintained close relationships with African American musicians. I don't think that makes him complex. I don't think he was a racist. He was a sociopath who was 100% willing to exploit people's worst racist instincts to beat the other guy despite having close black friends. Which is worse?
