Born Reckless

Born Reckless has several impressive sequences, notably the opening, the climactic scenes, and the time at war. Also a nice idea for a story, but the dialog and acting come off as forced and affected, sadly typical of '30s Hollywood.

An early sound movie John Ford directed with the help of writer Andrew Bennison. I guess it gave Ford the training recording sound pictures. This was more a Edmund Lowe style movie then a Ford production. Lowe is a cocky crook being sent to war as punishment, only to return to avenge a friend. This has got some of the same basis as the other interesting gangster films of the period but it never truly comes alive to be a memorable mob drama. A bit on the slow side and not enough good scenes.
