More interesting than successful, primarily as a "where it all began" for Anderson and the Wilsons; the harsh, "New Wave" film-making style is radically different to the eccentric twee-ness of Anderson's later work, though it does highlight his fixation on deliberately affected, anachronistic styles and characters. Taken on its own terms, it's a little too brief and underdeveloped to make a great impact, seeming to stop as soon as it gets going. Still interesting.

By far Anderson's most original, and ultimately funniest movie. The fact that this launched him as a director, and both Wilsons to movie-stardom, should not be overlooked. Also, what first-time Austin-based director gets James Caan to do a full role in a film? Short answer: a pretty damn good one. This review sounds like I'm writing a blurb for Entertainment Weekly, but whatever. I loved this movie in 9th grade and I love it today.

The more tightly-plotted short is a step above the full-length version as it gives the characters less time to marinate and monologue.

Sharp flick.

Really cool to see where it all began for Wes Anderson and the Wilsons, especially because there really isn't a hint of what they would become. Anderson's style in this short is so unlike what he would be doing just years later. And that's cool.

Mildly amusing debut short from Wes Anderson.

Wes Anderson's first foray into movie-making, and right out of the gate, he shows that he knows how to tell a story, and with style to boot. Visually, it kept reminding me of a miniature, American suburban "Bande à part"... I feel strongly this couldn't be a coincidence (with absolutely no factual basis for that feeling).

This movie was disappointing. I saw it after Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums, this may be why I don't like it as much.

A delightful indie flick that introduced me to the surprisingly long-lasting charisma of Owen Wilson.

A cool short that shows the creative beginnings of the full length movie. Considering I love Wes Anderson and I think the full length Bottle Rocket is great, I found this to be a very entertaining few minutes.

Nice short film that would go on to be made into its excellent full length version in 1996. Showcases a young Anderson and Wilson Brothers very well.

Not much to say about it, it's mostly scenes that ended up in the first act of the film.
