Can't put my finger on why this didn't impact me like I hoped. Perhaps Edgerton's direction, with its reliance on inappropriate slow motion and music cues. Hedges is excellent and Crowe developing into a strong (and portly) character actor makes an impression. One scene between the two, near the end, is by far the best in the movie and gives one a glimpse of the powerhouse this could have been.

Some nice performances, but it all feels too neat and simplistic to actually work. Absolutely no trauma, just some family easily solved by a powerful mom. Russell Crowe is unbelievably bad here.

Low-key simmering family drama does surprisingly little exploring of Jared's sexuality, instead framing it as a story of religious cultism and a fractured family dynamic. The character remains something of a cipher but Hedges is very good here - film is stolen by a magnificent Kidman, while Crowe with the tougher, less substantive role also performs wonders. The scenes within the church program are pretty fair and even sympathetic in their way to the practitioners.

Lucas Hedges and Nicole Kidman are cool. I liked their whole relationship. I also like how there wasnt really a big crescendo that got built to it was more subtle moments packed together or moreso the big moments got restrained. Not a good movie by any stretch tho

Based on a true story Boy erased focuses on the disturbing practice of conversion therapy Nicole Kidman gives a good performance as a concerned mother and Russell Crowe is equally good as the father who refuses to accept his gay son I'm not familiar with the other cast members but they are good as well in particular Lucas Hedges
