Could have been a solid little sci-fi thriller with a few script rewrites (especially on the terrible cop-out ending) and by getting rid of the insufferable Edward Furlong.

So horribly 90's. I had to laugh at all the Aerosmith posters/cd's. Come to think of it, this movie is similar to Aerosmith in a lot of ways: boring, bland, thankfully forgotten by time and featuring a creepy guy with terrible fashion sense and weird lips.

Trying to find enjoyment out of a FMV game will turn anyone into a stupid killer. Furlong's character isn't impressed by some ghoulish 70s glam thing coming out of his tv: ASPERGER CINEMA. My spooky blood cd would probably just play fart sounds.

Oddball little flick that takes the worst of every early-90s stereotype and mashes them together. Quite possibly the reason Eddie Furlong went insane.

A cheesy horror romp seemingly made by people who don't like horror movies. Frank Langella is good but the rest can be discarded.

Terrible "Horror" (if you can call it that) movie from the early 90's starring Edward Furlong (of Terminator 2) and Frank Langella (needed a paycheck). The main character plays an interactive computer game called "Brainscan", where he is killing people in the virtual world and the real world. Langella is the detective trying to figure it out. Dialogue is terrible, effects are rough and the villain looks like an 80's hair band rocker. It wasn't even so bad it's good, but it was just good enough

Typical 90's virtual reality flick with a cheestastic villain and a gloriously stupid ending. Great soundtrack, though.

(Viewed on 28/06/11): Brainscan is the reason Scream had to happen: to rid 90's horror of its dreaded 80's hangover. The 'Trickster' is the product of a clueless market research team's idea of what 'hip' kids might find cool in the mid 90's. He is Freddy Krueger updated for the alternative era and cynically represents the grunge, goth, and cyperpunk contingents respectively, all wrapped up in one craptacular package. The attempts at social commentary also fail miserably.

Perfect example of the optimism of computer technology in the 90's, and T. Ryder Smith's character is well pulled off as being both disturbing and amusing at the same time.

At the time, it was a revoutionary concept, but the ending is the textbook copout and spoils the whole experience for the viewer.

Five. Five dollar Furlong. We thought Fangoria was cool; when it was time for Fangoria to show us how cool they thought they were, they got pantsed and shoved into a locker like a typical Starlog reader. I've had that joke in my head since 8th grade....Brainscan was what happens when a magazine about movies makes a movie. That was also Mindwarp, not this film, but screw it.

A great movie that is (almost) ruined by the ending. With all the remakes and reboots going on now, I think this movie could be awesome if given another chance

our enjoyment of this film rests on whether you can stomach that guy and Furlong. It's basically a slightly better (very debatable), videogame version of Trick Or Treat. It's R, but I think only 13-16 year olds in 1993 would like this film at all. It does nothing to earn an R except for like 15 F bombs.

Ahead of it's time and well done. However, it doesn't seem to know whether it wants to be a quirky black comedy or a straightforward horror film. That along with the ending make it suffer.

As far as godawful movies go, this isn't completely unwatchable. The ending is so lame and predictable that I didn't even see it coming.
