The cashier at the theater seemed barely to know BRANDED existed; it fully lived up to this bad omen. It's not bland, mind you--it's one of the craziest attempts at a film I've seen in a while, a semi-satire on corporate branding with touches of NETWORK and VIDEODROME, with strange, badly CGI-ed manifestations of logos and mascots, animal sacrifices, mystical omens, and limp humor. It's near-incoherent and overlong, and neither well-directed or acted, but I appreciate its sheer nutty ambition.

Watch "The Century of the Self" instead of this.

Appealingly bizarre in concept, but fails on nearly every filmmaking level - acting, editing, pacing, message, and tone all completely fail here, leaving a film that wants to be provocative and weird but, like many conspicuous failures of its type, ends up at 'mostly dull.'

Yeah, see, here's the thing: our current golden age of worldwide wealth and prosperity is driven by capitalism. Saying "the world would be so great if we could just get rid of that ugly capitalist greed!" is kind of like saying, "This car would be amazing if we just cut out that annoyingly noisy engine!" Not saying it's impossible, but man, you are so many degrees away from even beginning to understand what you're saying.

What happens when you take an incisive satire and add Pokemon? BRANDED!

Wow! There was a strong David Cronenberg influence in it and points for that. The story itself did not succeed as good as it should and it looked partly unnecessarily ridiculous. Actually I found the plot as it was very boring. Leelee Sobieski was good at her part.

A very original story, weird effects and cool concept. The only thing holding down the grade was the weird female role.

Simultaneously cynical and naive, like 'They Live' without the crudely action movie concepts of agency - if anything the concepts involved are even more confused, as becomes progressively clearer, and the conclusion thus especially weak. But certainly not without interest.

A movie that fails to express why marketing and advertising is bad. How do you even do that? A movie that doesn't understand any aspect of what it's talking about and really has no connection to reality and therefore fails to say anything.

In a world where SINISTER ADVERTISERS with their EVIL POWER to ADVERTISE convince the nation of Russia that FAT PEOPLE are ATTRACTIVE, it's up to ONE MAN born with a DIVINE GIFT FOR ADVERTISING to convince the world that FATTIES ARE INDEED GROSS AND UNATTRACTIVE, and to ensure that ALL FORMS OF ADVERTISEMENT, OF ANYTHING, FOR ANY REASON, BECOME ILLEGAL. This is literally the plot of the movie.

You can't fault it for being ordinary. You can however fault it for being utterly confused and not understanding its primary subject matter.

Fast food sales are declining, so you engineer a tragedy surrounding a make-over show that makes people outraged at fat-shaming and thus more socially accepting of junk food. An advertiser disillusioned by this scheme completes a cow-blood ritual that allows him to see shoddy CGI avatars of advertising influence. Repeat...chaos...advertising is banned. Branded takes an great concept and executes it horrendously. The acting, script, characters and direction vary between bland and bad.
