Film summary is bollocks. There's one thing the UK excels at, dramedy. This one is a more drama than comedy, but it has some very funny moments. Steller performance by Pete Postlethwaite (and others), some great brass band music, and a plot that will take you up and down like a lift to the pit.

Good film.

Remember kids, lung damage, poverty and brass bands don't mix as well in real life.

Have to be honest, all I really remember is Ewan McGregor and Peter Postlethwaite, to be clear not their characters, just them on screen. It's kind of a sibling of 'The Full Monty'.

It's a nice little story with a mix of low key drama, small comedic moments, and decent use of the setting for some political commentary. It's quietly effective, but a bit clunky when it tries to go big and not particularly powerful or memorable.

Charming and touching, rubbing one of Great Britain's sore spots.

A classic. Maybe I'm biased because I've played in brass bands most of my life, and I know how much of this has a basis in fact! Add to that the fact that I've played in bands with a lot of the bandsmen in the shots (and there are hundreds).

Nothing special, really, but a well-made likable comedy with a lot of atmosphere and local color. Peter Postlethwaite is particularly fine.

Looking below the plot surface, we find a deeply moving exploration of different models of masculinity. The music becomes the overarching metaphor for an expression of gendered vulnerability, and what incredible music it is!

just want to warn, that his is not a comedy as the trailer and description suggests. There are just a few minutes of that in the movie. It's a drama.

Touching, bittersweet tale of the rural British working-class, a bit along the lines of The Full Monty but better.

Not really a comedy. This movie was much better than I thought it would be. A pretty good story, and the music was good too. Oh...and the synopsis written for this movie is not accurate.
