I think it really shines in its representation and journey through self-discovery. Cillian Murphy was excellent, charming and funny in all the right places, and I liked the ending quite a bit. I would like to have spent more time with Kitten’s friends though. I didn’t feel much of anything whenever stuff happened to them. It bordered monotonous at times too. I think the journey was worth my time, it just didn’t grab me as much as I had hoped. Killer soundtrack though.

Not funny, yet not quite sad. By year 2005 you can see the forming, mainstream cliche of an orphaned, beautiful sissy. It's unbelievable, and lame, and conservative and lovebale. I loved how no stud on white horse came.

Beautifully told life-tale of an orphan who was a bit too eccentric for his small town. The main character, Kitten, is a captivating character and he was beautifully captured by Cillian Murphy. The short, chapter-based storytelling method was very effective, together with the song tie-ins that made the movie flow perfectly.

Self-indulgent and unapologetic for its wastefulness. Cillian Murphy's performance is okay, but completely one-dimensional, and the character sucks. The rest of the movie meanders like crazy to the point where you simply can't bear to watch it anymore.

A pleasant and entertaining (if overall unmemorable) trifle that charms with its obvious pretentions and uplifts thanks to its hopefulness and optimism. Its most notable asset is probably Murphy's performance, who reveals a striking versatility, while the rest of the (impressive) cast also does well portraying likable caricatures. It's nothing special on the whole, but, for those two hours, perfectly engaging and harmless.

A fairly interesting character to follow thru the trials and tribulations of coming of age and enduring teh abuses against him. I just felt like we kept seeing the same incidents over and over again: Men take advantage of him... In the end, I just didn't care anymore...

The movie was not without its weak points, but the main character (and particularly her voice) are haunting.

A decent Neil Jordan flick. Cillian Murphy is marv in the leading role. Too many chapter names shatter majority of the movie. Story balances between the raw reality and the non-serious mind of protaconist. The director should stick more with the protaconist.

Incredible move. Has to be seen to be believed. And bless Jordan and Murphy for doing this movie.

It's hard to believe that such a bizarre character could be so utterly compelling and lovable. "Breakfast on Pluto" is a strange mix of period piece and hyperbole, and just damned fun throughout.

Excellent performance from Murphy, with a strong supporting cast. In many ways it's similiar to "The Crying Game" but never quite reaches the same level. As usual for McCabe, the judgemental attitudes of rural Ireland in the face of 'the other' is the strongest element to the narrative.

It's kind of embarrassing to say, but only know I do understand the connection between LGTB and prostitution.

not only because neil jordan is one of my favorite directors... all the glam rock glitter, quotes of oscar wilde, great stephen rea as a magician and the wonderful performance of cillian murphy... the movie is like a fairy tale. it should be watched over and over and over again...

Well acted, and mildly interesting concept. Unfortunately the lead character wears thin relatively quickly. Perhaps if they’d been a supporting character it would’ve been better, but by the time the movie reached the halfway point I was hoping for a bit more character development. It does get better towards the end, but most of the film feels like it’s without any real plot or consistent characters, just meandering throughout, which made it hard for me to be invested at times.

Brash, hysterically funny (but poignant) tale of a young transvestite trying to find his/her way in the Ireland of the 70s. Fantastic soundtrack. Great support from Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea & Liam Neeson. Cillian Murphy's performance is absolute genius.

Murphy does an amazing job playing the lost 'Kitten' looking for her mother. By turns laugh out loud funny and cringe inducing brutal, Breakfast On Pluto is a really honest portrayal of the complexity of transvestism set in the backdrop of Irish civil unrest. Really original idea that is well executed on every level - direction, writing, acting, set design, and makeup.

A picaresque, colorful fable about a tranny and the life and times of late seventies turmoil in Ireland. Like "Forrest Gump" without the backpatting.

Not as subtle as the novel and Pussy was a far more engaging leading lady than Kitten. An ok film. Cillain Murphy does a good job with the material.

I think that Murphy's lighthearted indifference in the face of violence and villainy is supposed to engender sympathy, making him seem like a rebel unphased by life's brutality. I can't really get passed his extreme narcissism and self-regard, and Murphy's one-note performance doesn't really help. I don't think he ever feels like a real person.

Sweet and strangely touching movie. Cillian Murphy is wonderful and adorable as the heroine who's interestingly both snarky and starry-eyed. (4/5)

On 16 May 2011, I loved this movie 89. I was young and it was very late at night or very early in the morning when they aired films like that, just for kids like me it seemed. A glimpse at the glamorous deathly peepshow spinster life I could have. Now the year is 2024 and I have the privilege to say, no thanks, and pick up a camera instead.

Brilliant film. Contrasts the love and sense of wonder of a group of close freinds with the brutality of the war going on around them. Truly moving you'll go from weeping with joy to weeping in sympathy.

Jordan joined author Patrick McCabe in adapting (and apparently considerably softening) his novel, slicing the film up into multiple little pieces presenting like chapters in motion. This gives the film a bustling feel, but it also dulls the emotional impact by keeping everything unduly fragmented. It's only in the latter portions of the film when the narrative develops some focus and consistency that it begins to feel full and satisfying.
