Perfectly captures the rage and resentment that bubbles within every high school student. Many movies have tried to illustrate this, but few do so with such honesty. But most surprising of all is Melanie Laurent's powerhouse direction, which works overtime in order to portray these emotional histrionics in a way that never once actually FEELS histrionic. Of note is the two party sequences and that gorgeous long take at the mother's home.

A very good movie with a very bad ending. It doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel, but it's a well-executed and refreshing take on friendship and love and passion. What I appreciate most is how nuanced it all is. The acting is fantastic, and although the two main characters are incredibly different, their interactions feel natural. But the ending goes against everything I thought this movie was. Maybe I was watching a different kind of movie all along. Haneke for teenagers, or something.

A film based around great performances (two in particular) from a talented cast. As a bonus, the story unfolds at such a nice pace that you can easily stay interested throughout. The final act was on the borderline of taking the whole concept too far, but ultimately I found the ending almost as satisfying as what had gone before. I'm really impressed with this Mélanie Laurent and what she's doing in her film career...

mélanie laurent's formal control is intimidating; her ability to say so much about charlie's interior landscape through her compositions, and coax up feeling from small, sensual details, is impressive here. this screenplay is pretty well-worn and not always subtle, but many of the filmmaking/acting decisions do seem true and perceptive to me based on similar experiences i've had, and i can't imagine anyone not dialling into the intense, obsessive way it's brought to life.

Respire (or Breathe) features great performances by the two main actresses and the story presented here turns out intense and sad, while good executed. There are some parts I sorta don't like but this film is worth a watch.

"Intense" is a word that describes this movie well. Coincidentally, I also see that word present in the summary of this movie :) It is a very believable story and well acted out by the two leading ladies in the film.

The most accurate capture of a manipulative/dependent/obsessive relationship I've ever seen. It's like the two actress were made for their roles.
