Brève traversée

The writing feels a shade overwritten at times for a tone this close to naturalism; it all develops too easily. It's a flaw that makes everything seem false at times, but it's still a decent watch. A scene towards the end involving a brief photograph contains some phenomenal acting (of which there is many throughout, but this one stands out above the rest). Just one of those moments of intense discomfort as a viewer that this director excels in.

Soa como uma reposta da própria Breillat ao seu Fat Girl, enquanto este mostra a manipulação de um homem mais velho com uma adolescente, em Breve Travessia o manipulado é um menino por uma mulher mais velha, mas claro, nós só ficamos sabendo disso no momento final. An incredible movie, this time about a grown woman and an underaged boy (at least superficially the opposite of what Breillat does elsewhere). Scathingly truthful and astute. One of her very best.
