A quality period drama with a literary feel, which effectively combines a slow-burning and satisfying cross-generational mystery story with antipodean exoticism, sixties style, and a good dose of buxom young women and muscly men getting into love affairs. The modern day framing device adds a surprising amount of depth (although some more Rutger Hauer screentime would have been nice). The recreation of 1960s NZ eschews gritty realism for Hollywood glamour... which is just fine by me.
