It's nice to see a children's film that sincerely and unironically uses fairy tale and fantasy motifs as a way of dealing with the difficulties of real life. The child actors are very good; the film occasionally feels a bit manipulative, but mostly it's pretty solid.

Surprisingly powerful. The second half is very emotionally moving, and the movie is not at all what the advertising sold it to be. I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing though, because going in expecting it to be something else really makes the gut-punch ending that much more palpable. The acting is very good, from both the youngsters and Robert Patrick. My only problem is that the second half moves a little too briskly, especially considering how sad it is.

Scale it down, keep it managable. This is the core that makes Terabithia sufficient as a family fantasy movie.

This film sticks pretty closely to the book. There are some liberties taken, but it's still really good. The two main childactors are also excellent in their roles.

It's nice because it's recognisable. The whole fantasy thing we have as children, being able to create an entire world, having a dog, a tree house... On the other hand, it's just too childish to be really involving.

Incredible film that is so much more than just a 'kid's movie'. While it advertised itself as being a fantasy film similar to for example Chronicles of Narnia, it's actually something else entirely. There are some fantasy parts, but that's only one aspect of this film. The film explores some rather hefty themes in a refreshing, honest and sometimes surprising way. I thought the casting and acting were great. It takes a while for the story to really take off but it's totally worth it, a must see!

This movie is cute but it's all over the place. At times it's completely silly bordering on stupid and other times it seems to perfectly capture the fun of being a young kid, even through the bad moments. I thought the ending wasn't really well executed and hurt the film.

The ending is easily predictable, the rest is iffy at best. It's hard to care at all for a movie that's sole interesting aspect is the imaginations of little kids, especially when it is completely clear that it is merely a fantasy world. If you're wanting to see this based on assumptions from reading the box, or seeing a preview, DO NOT WATCH, it will disappoint.

For the most part this works well for kids and is reasonably faithfull to the feel of the book. However, there's a bit of sketchy acting and the emotional journey doesn't seem quite as fulfilling as it could've been.

i loved the book, but i expected to hate the film. i must say i was pleasantly surprised. of course it was nowhere near as emotional as the book, mostly because of the bad CGI and the ability, or lack thereof of the actors. Also the relationships between characters are much better developed and portrayed in the book. Despite all this i think the movie did a good job, especially with the setting and even the casting, in terms of being physically right for the part.

The first half is extremely rudimentary, but the second half of the movie has things get interesting and much more serious. Never would have I expected there to be a Disney movie for children that touches on such subjects as religion/Jesus, revenge and its consequences, and betraying your friends. The ending is extremely powerful, even if you see it coming from a mile away, and is tragically realistic. I just really wish that the Terabithia part of the story was a little more fleshed out.

A nice children's drama which is loaded with valuable life lessons and relatable (if heavy-handed) family and school situations. The lead actors are both great - for a kids film - and the experiences they share will make anyone feel a touch of childhood nostalgia. The ending is pretty heavy stuff but it does give the film so much more meaning and weight. For me the worst parts were the CGI action scenes, which added relatively little.

Terabithia is undoubtedly created with passion. The kid acting is all well and good. But the film is loaded to the brim with manipulations and forced whimsical moments. The ending scenes are for the most part handled well enough until the unfortunate Disney style rears it's ugly head once again.

Additionally, what the movie actually has to say about death and God's role in it is careless at best. His justice is weighed against His mercy, but the dominant view seems to be based on the idea that mercy leads to absolutely no judgment and no disappointment. Thus, the Kingdom of God comes off looking a lot like the kingdom of Terabithia, a beautiful place populated by our imagination and about which it's impossible to know much. (pluggedin.com)

I really didn't enjoy it. I found myself laughing at quite a few parts that were clearly intended to be serious (I kept chuckling whenever someone mentioned how great the boy's drawings were). The two child actors seemed to have mastery of a single facial expression each. The girl was always grinning, while her male counterpart seemed to lack the ability to genuinely smile. It feels like My Girl meets the Chronicles of Narnia, with My Girl being the dominant plot. Misleading marketing also.

Bridge to Terabithia should have been better than it was. It had a talented enough cast, and was based on a critically acclaimed novel. But almost nothing works the way that it should. Any points the film brings up are either neglected or contradicted, the dialogue is terribly written and I couldn't feel anything for any of the characters. The melodramatic ending came off as flat, and the CGI was terrible. I felt robbed of my time, and still couldn't figure out why this film was made.

Surprisingly faithful adaptation which is unexpected given the subject matter. The film was a bit light on the acting though and that's to be expected from the young cast. The film doesn't really shy away from the book but the movie still feels as if there certain creative constraints put onto the fantasy portion of the film.

Any movie with Zooey Deschanel in it tends to possess some charm, but this movie fell a bit flat. Josh Hutcherson demonstrates an early talent but his female countpart, Annasophia Robb, seems to be following in the footsteps of other untalented, Disney-trained actresses. Semi-sweet and a bit dull.

I think I liked this movie a lot more than I really did because I began to day dream heavily about a situation where Zooey Deschanel was my music teacher, and she invited me to a museum; it was terribly distracting. But anyway, Bridge to Terabithia is a well-made, entertaining film, and despite some cringe-inducing scenes ("Just like the Bible says, Dad?"), I find no significant faults.

This is one of the most overrated films in recent memory. It's sad to see what passes for "quality family fare" these days--bad acting, shallow characters, a cloying and contrived plot, and even a blatant statement that kids cannot apparently use their own imaginations so we have to visualize things for them. This film had no clue at all what it wanted to be and ended up being nothing. Show your kids "My Girl" if you want a quality and life's-lessons film that is worthy of their time.

Really nice and in some moments sad film. It very well captures the world of young children. I expected it to be more fantasy-like (the visual effects are poping up at you everywhere from every film like this). I am glad this was not the case. Nice change to see something about children who like to dream - not about little action heroes.

The petty, evil man inside me wanted to hate this movie, and the blaring bubblegum pop (now available on CD or cassette; just send check, money-order, and your soul to the Disney Corporation) almost did the trick...but man, I've grown soft. Really well made, emotionally charged film. There, I've said it. I went into this expecting just a kids film - watching it only for Zooey Deschanel - and was really surprised when things took a turn for the macabre. Very well done, well acted and deals with adult problems while maintaining the fantasy world equally.

It deals with some fairly weighty issues for a kids film, but it does so in such a spectacularly unsubtle (some would say manipulative) manner I lost interest quite early on. The fantasy elements felt tacked on and unsubstantial, mainly because they are clearly products of the kids imagination and nothing more - compare it to something like Coraline or The Fall, which blur the line between fantasy and reality and are much more engaging as a result.

I didn't know much about the book before watching this. I don't know if it is supposed to magic or imagination. I think it is the later, and to be honest it seems kind of like a mental illness if they're having hallucinations that vivid. As for the actual movie, it felt very 90s to me. The way the kids acted at school was very fake. I was NOT expecting Leslie to just suddenly die like that. I guess it was probably in the book, but it was such a left turn. Overall it was a pretty good kids film.

In the vein of My Girl, Bridge to Terabithia tells a very sweet children's story while also imparting an important lesson for children as well. The children in the movie were very good. Patrick as the father was admirable as a parent and, more important, real. The teachers at the school were hands off but there at important moments as well. I was touched by this movie and it's something I'll watch again. The ending made me question if the filmmakers ran out of CG budget though.

Not quite the fantasy/adventure film hinted at by the title and poster; this is more a grounded, coming of age story with fantasy elements woven in and a few abruptly brutal emotional turns which unexpectedly require more of Hutcherson and Robb's performances than you might predict (and both kids rise to the challenge). Arguably uses a sledgehammer to kill a fly to get where it needs to end up emotionally, but still a well-acted and enjoyable experience.
