Doesn't display the vicious wit of the source material, and merely skips from scene to scene without a sense of purpose or a compelling through-line. I'm left wondering, why this story, why now?

Enjoyable and fun but we don't really get to know the characters well enough to feel any real emotion towards them. The acting is good throughout. Many of the side characters (Agatha, Miles, Lottie) were much more enjoyable to watch than Adam and Nina and I often found myself waiting for Adam to stop talking. The ending I wasn't a fan of to be honest, from the moment war broke out I lost all interest.

I thought this would be a fun look at a bygone period in English history. I was wrong... although the cameo by Sir John Mills was awesome.

Ok, so while it does drag in a few places, the others make up for it. A flashy, well acted adaptation of a good novel, witty and wicked.

a charming and light-hearted look at 30's london high society. as a social commentary it fails miserably, and as a comedy it's not really funny. this succeeds anyway despite those flaws, and it is wickedly entertaining.

It's well made, certainly, but it very much shows that this was essentially Stephen Fry wanking off to his love of the time period. It's not nearly as witty or satiric as it's source, and it attmepts to put drama into places there should be none, it is at least well casted, well acted, and well-produced.

"Spectacularly irrelevant, Bright Young Things is well-performed and frequently hysterical but its political resistance is frustrating." - Ed Gonzalez

Great directorial debut for Stephen Fry. Bright portrayal of the decadent English society of the 1930s, full of quick and witty dialogues and fantastic performances.

Unfortunately laboured directorial debut from Fry starts nicely with a convincing, refreshingly 'modern' look at the 30s London swinging scene, but falls into the trap of depicting characters with the attention span of a fruit fly with the same scattiness, flitting irritatingly from ledge to ledge without actually settling anywhere. Performances are generally as good as the shallow characters allow them to be, and Mills' bow-out is a magic moment, but a tighter focus would have been appreciated.

Well known and respected Stephen Fry's first as i know only movie what hit on big screens. Its pretty good. But its somewhat dull movie as there is party's after party's and people just enjoy life.
