Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails attempted to capitalise on the social disconnection and withdrawal of youth by addressing these feelings in a fairly conventional rock 'n' roll format (compared, say, with the less conventional extremes of heavy metal and punk). This was continued by Marilyn Manson and reached its apotheosis with Lady Gaga, whose mainstream pop sensibility is covered by the thinnest veneer of "alternative" fancy-dress. At least Reznor tried for genuine shocks and thematic darkness.

Acutely dreadful short film that's like some sort of fusion of the _Saw_ movies, _Tetsuo: The Iron Man_, and _Street of Crocodiles_. I like Nine Inch Nails, but a first exposure to the music via this might turn him/her off it for life

Ironically, nothing here offends me like the video for "Closer" did. I still remain indifferent towards NIN and Reznor.

I've seen a couple of different versions of this over the years. The still-persisting rumours and of what's in the 'real' version seem to be a joke now. Sleazy did make something suitable for the music though.

Where to begin? I saw this online in the late 90s back when most internet video sites weren't censoring videos. It left a huge scar across my psyche and remains probably the most disturbing movie I've ever seen (and I've watched a lot). This was helped by rumours at the time that footage was real (since debunked). Missing from many lists of extreme films probably due to poor availability, this deserves to be ranked above most extreme graphic horror movies.
