(2014-15 Disneython #38:) A sort of sweet, sort of annoying (those moose, ugh) little morality tale about respecting nature and whatnot. Not one of Disney's best. I also find the ending pretty goddamn weird, where he (SPOILERS) willingly chooses to remain a bear forever. Don't you want to, you know, have opposable thumbs? And have sex with human women one day?

Pretty forgettable animation in the formulation of Lion King (can be diluted to "Vengeance is a dish that you rather not eat"). The music choices was pretty awkward; Bears and Mooses with Phil Collins and Tina Turner was weird (Tina Turner's hair is a bit wild; but still...)

Light, enjoyable Disney-for-kids animation is a superior mid-low tier effort - a well-modulated voice cast helps paper over the familiarity of the material (especially “shots” and character beats blatantly stolen from THE LION KING). Attractive animation is another plus, though the much ballyhooed (at the time) shifting aspect ratio is hardly worth the bother – kicked to a mild recommendation by Moranis and Foley, whose droll asides make their spins on Timon and Pumba the highlight of the film.

With fine animation, solid voice performances, and an enjoyable concept, it should be much better than it is- and that's its biggest flaw. Bogged down by a very slow start that drags far too long, followed by a very rushed second and third act that never earn the emotional impact they're looking for, it also makes some odd writing choices and includes several pointless side characters. However, it is occasionally charming and delivers a good message, and isn't bad at all.

Dear GOD this film was boring. So, so, so boring. The lyrics to the songs are so trite they're cringeworthy. The characters, minus the Bob-and-Doug Moose, were unlikable and irritating. The backgrounds very well done though, so 10 points for that. And only that.

Fuckin' Phil Collins. This one wasn't horrible; I loved the Native American themes, especially that of reincarnation/animal symbols, but the rampant Phil Collins montages and bland story make it easily forgettable as far as Disney goes.
