Buffalo Bill

After the brilliant, timeless western The Ox-Bow Incident, Wellman disappoints by directing this ho-hum, sentimental crap. The only point of interest is that the "Indians" are portrayed sympathetically relative to the time this was made, and Anthony Quinn is cast as one such Indian.

Likable performance by McCrea, but never rises above the usual cliches of the show-biz biopic. Although it is nice to have a show-biz biopic with Indians, for a change.

Anthony Quinn plays a war chief that dies with honor while trying to protecting his people. Just couldn't find it in me to like any of the other characters.

Buffalo Bill (1944) pays fine detail to color and surroundings, but not as much to it's story where it gets difficult to root for anybody. Joel McCrea takes his role seriously, and it does try to tell a compelling story, but there are little things which stops it from becoming engaging. A good attempt, but not as good as they aimed for.
