Butch Saunders has been transferred to Missing Persons because he was too brutal in other police work. He regards the assignment as "kindergarten" work. When a young woman asks him to help locate her husband, Therme, he learns that she is really Norma Phillips, wanted by Chicago police for murder of her husband. She escapes, but Saunders borrows a corpse from the morgue to arrange her fake funeral. The trap brings the woman and Therme to the mortuary out of curiosity. (imdb)

Episodic, fast-moving, and quite entertaining (and often quite silly)....it's like a 1930's Law and Order episode. After top billing in her previous movie, "Ex-Lady", Bette Davis had a supporting role here. Pat O'Brien was top-billed when it came out, but by 1936, when it was re-released, Davis was so much bigger a star that Warner's reconfigured the credits. She was apparently not at all happy making this one, but she does get to show some spunk.

So many 'missing persons' cases. So many Hollywood stars. So damn(!!!) little time! It was like Warner Bros had most of their mid-tire stars pop-in for an appearance in this little programmer! Bette Davis, who was top-billed, was only one of the cases and came in about half-way. Though she was a special case.... for Detective Pat O'Brien. One just don't get to feel the excitement much as there is just too much going on. A good fun time-filler is what it's supposed to be and that's what it is!
