Megan is an all-American girl. She's a cheerleader, she has a boyfriend, etc. But she doesn't like kissing her boyfriend very much. And she's pretty touchy with her cheerleader friends. And she only has pictures of girls up in her locker. Her parents and friends conclude that she *must* be gay and send her off to "sexual redirection" school, full of admittedly homosexual misfits, where she can learn to how to be straight. Will Megan be turned around to successful heterosexuality, or will she succumb to her love for the beautiful Graham? (imdb)

Takes the worst, overused stereotypes about gay culture and kitsch and puts them into a fairly standard romance plot, surrounded by some very very obvious social commentary - but despite all of this pretty much working against it, the film is still pretty fun and kinda revels in predictability enough that it becomes tongue in cheek rather than trying too hard. An excellent twee pop soundtrack too.

Quite funny (especially RuPaul), but the satire doesn't cut sharp enough and the ending is a bit of a bust. Acting could be better as well.

One of those "heart is in the right place" but head isnt type movies. Misses out on being a good film but is enjoyable enough to sit through.

Nice tone and, while often painfully 90s, occasionally surprisingly well aged. Dialogue lets it down, performances lift it up.

Nah, this movie slaps. It’s so far ahead of its time. I’m both shocked and relieved to have a movie that looks down upon conversion therapy while also managing to be so dang funny and campy. It took itself seriously enough of you ask me. I walked away provoked but also content, corny ending and all. It’s such a genuine movie, with some committed performances and surprisingly attractive colors and cinematography. It isn’t perfect, but it’s such a good time. Can’t recommend it enough.

It's just another tedious teen sex comedy that tries to evoke laughs through more envelope-pushing and shock value.

I didn't exactly hate it while I was watching it, but in retrospect, very regrettable. The synopsis is the most interesting thing about it.

This is one of those films that hold a special place in my heart. Sometimes the satire is too obvious, but it's a large step above other GLBT coming of age movies.

A few really nice moments, but it just doesn't know what to do with itself. It feels like the Edward Scissorhands look is a way to distance the filmmakers from having to take a stand.

Disappointingly archetypal lesbian cinema. It's all so homogeneous, it makes the good ones stand out way more than they would if they were straight.

Are there any fairies out there? 'coz I'm eighteen and I haven't done a thing. Moreover, Now I know I will never go to a gay bar underaged, and this limitation, or if you will - misinterpretation makes me soft inside, wishing I would have been born straight. Well, not really.

A sweet little romance with a creepy/fun background of a "straightening" home. And I'm delighted with the names in this - Mink Stole, RuPaul, Cathy Moriarty... fun to see them pop up.

Nunca Fui Santa estreava há 20 anos no Kansas City Gay and Lesbian Festival. #pridemonth . Ter Mink Stole e RuPaul no elenco valem cada segundo, como se não bastasse é uma sátira aos conservadores de primeira linha. Plus: Tenho quase certeza que não sou lésbica porque a Julie Delpy nunca me chamou pra dançar. WEBRip RARBG.

Fun premise and interesting use of colors and set design. They don't go far enough though. I think they didn't want to offend the religious types that typically run and support gay conversion therapy. Clea DuVall could turn me into a lesbian. Surprise Julie Delpy and Michelle Williams appearances. The ending was so forced and unsatisfying. The gay couple housing runaway kids were more interesting. Fav scene: RuPaul fixing the car in short shorts.

Pulls no punches. No bait and switch, "Oh, I think I'll be kind of edgy -- nerp wee wee wee maybe American audiences will revolt!" nope! They just went for it, unrepentantly. Other movies could be this good if they weren't made by cowards. Moreover, this film needed to be made. Because so many of us have lived it. The nerve of that spineless garbage "Saved!" trying to follow this up! This is hilarious, irreverent, sweet, surreal and iconoclastic. Never meek or apologetic.

This is such a sweet and quirky little comedic romance. It could have been over the top, but somehow everyone comes together to make it a pleasure to watch. Lyonne & DuVall have excellent chemistry, RuPaul was a delight every time he was on-screen, the side characters all still felt like real, loveable characters, Moriarty was deliciously atrocious, and listen, I want a Lloyd and Larry movie, please. Or maybe a sitcom would work better.

A sweet, warm and fuzzy romcom that is a classic example of a film being way better than its poster would lead you to believe. There aren't that many laugh out loud moments, but I was consistently smiling and it's just a very nice movie. The set design and aesthetic feel Wes Andersony. Way ahead of its time.
