Butt Boy

To borrow from whatever genius wrote the tagline for Pieces, "It's exactly what you think it is!" I put this on while the wife was with me under the guise that it was some television show which added another level to the wtf going on in her mind. Accepting this while mostly rejecting The Greasy Strangler just further accentuates my own hypocrisy and at this stage of life I have no interest in anything other than embracing that. Butt Boy, watch it or don't.

I wish I hadn't read the synopsis before going in. It sounded so unbelievably stupid and couldn't possibly see how this would work, but my curiosity got the best of me. While it's not an amazing film, the premise is very well executed and works quite well. It's funny and entertaining. The acting is fantastic, particularly Rice. It's unbelievably clever. Stupid, perhaps, but completely original. To quote Spinal Tap, "it's a fine line between stupid and clever." This film epitomizes that line.

Oh boy, another humourless comedy film where only the film's concept is funny (so that joke lasts as long as it takes to say the title). To be fair, this film does actually does kick in with some audacious gross-out laughs towards the end (even if some of its own logic doesn't make sense), but it's too little too late for this otherwise rather dry film.

An absurd premise, but the film surprises as it develops, resulting in a unique and surreal experience, with elements of comedy, drama and horror.
