Chow's at is best when he's doing comedic action sequences, and there are some truly brilliant ones here. Not enough to make it more than an above-average kids' movie, but it's pretty fun. The CGI is passable (it's suposed to be cartoony so it works on that level) but I think he relied on it too much, all the actors clearly staring at nothing is awkward. The kids are hilarious though.

Given Stephen Chow's track record, this was dissapointing to say the least. But the thing is, its CLEARLY a kid's movie. Once you realize that, a lot of it makes sense/is forgiveable, and to be honest, its pretty damn fun for a kids movie. Its got that Stephen Chow style, but the story is pretty lame, and I think it could have been a lot better. As a sidenote, man did I feel awful for CJ7. That little dude got abused like hell, and it just made me feel bad, not laugh.

A touching father-son drama and wacky kid comedy all in one (Xu nails the facial expressions for both), with some sci-fi thrown in there for shits and giggles (actually tho). Uproariously funny and heart-achingly poignant (see battered Dicky yell "bitterness, like the sea, is boundless!" before bounding up a million feet in the air with his super shoes), with our titular hero-a rubbery lime-green alien dog with a heart of gold and divine healing powers-embodying this wild mix of emotions.

Bafflingly effective. No movie centering upon such a weakly animated, stupid-looking critter should carry the emotional weight that this movie does. Ludicrous, silly, and poignant, often all at once, it hits all of its beats dead-on: the laughs are uproarious and the tears are meaningful, though the winces are perhaps too numerous. Special shout-out to Xu Jiao's phenomenal facial expressions.

Major drawback from Chow. Regardless of it being a child movie it was uninspirational and worn out. Apart from production values, a funny reference to KungFu Hustle and few funny scenes it was pointless in almost everyway.

It's a children's film, but there's some funny/cute scenes. We all want one of those aliens!

Ti (Stephen Chow) is a poor Chinese worker who works all day as a construction worker so that his son can continue to attend an expensive elite school. As a result, he is unable to buy nice clothes or new toys for his son, Dicky Chow. If he really wants a CJ1, the most popular toy at the time, his father cannot buy it for him. Ti tries his luck at the dump in the hope that he will find something beautiful there. He discovers a spherical object that he takes for his son and names CJ7.

CJ7 is an odd movie. It's for kids for sure, but how it's make, I'm not sure it's the best kind of material for kids. There is good awful story, and some effects are good, some bad, but that's Chow. The mood and action is the main thing. And there's Kitty Zhang Yuqi. Who is that beauty? I do not dig much of oriental girls, but she's got curves and bust and she's tall. Must be a mixture. Cannot wait for Jump!

While definitely not my favorite Stephen Chow movie, I found this one, one of the easiest and most straightforward to be entertained by.

"Chow's comic fantasy is a sop to kiddie sentimentality that barely skirts rancid cutesiness by sheer virtue of its strange details." - Fernando F. Croce

Chow's thesis is more profound than There Will Be Blood's, and it's expressed through a more sophisticated narrative.

It had some funny moments, and you felt for the characters, but the plot was very weird and it left you feeling like it could have been more.

Absolutely adorable. When it comes to creativity, Stephen Chow might just be the Chinese Spielberg.
