Story of a young man who leaves the ostensible hypocrisies of his privileged upbringing for romanticized rural Oregon, where he finds the same ostensible hypocrisies, occasionally without the veneer of civility. Not as pat as all that suggests, though, and capable of poignancies, but too often identifies with its protagonist's sardonic contempt.

It's sometimes funny, but this is yet another indie drama where I can't stand the main character. He's this white upper-class privileged wise-ass who travels across the country to take on a grueling blue-collar job like it's just a vacation for him. Like he romanticizes it in some abstract way. And it's hard to sympathize with him when he is fully capable of escaping all this conflict, if not for his own stubbornness or some weird desire for strange things to happen so he can grow as a character

A strange sad story that struck me harder and was more poignant than any story I have read or seen in a long time. I still don't know what to say about god, but this story gave me some idea to grasp onto. *I believe I am a Child of God, but only in the sense that we don't know what fate and love will bring our way. Highly recommended. Just don't think it is a normal film, it's more of a public service announcement.

It probably works as a short story but as a feature length film and without the benefit of literary techniques, its thematic concerns feel limited and hollow.

Watching this film was more fun than finishing it. A college graduate decides to spend some time experiencing the lives of real people. His adventure leads him to form relationships with several people in the small town who turn out to be quite flawed. The ending was rather confusing & abrupt, as was most of the movie's message. At times it felt like they tried to use strange music in place of meaningful dialog & plot. We are never let in on the back story, perhaps it was lost in editing?
