When dealing with such ridiculous high concepts, I expect the film to subject itself to some kind of personal debasement, rather than assume I'll eat up its Avant Garde BS. It makes an interesting case on avoiding past errors and preventing unfortunate events, all of which is sadly explored through one of the most awful time-travel scenarios in recent memory. Performances stand out, especially Leaud as the jovial watchmaker who proves he can still steal the spotlight like a boss.
