Singer and poet, Baal is invited by Meck to a dinner hosted in his honor. Sarcastically rejecting proposals that would lead to his social climbing, offends the guests, courting the wife of Meck. Opting for a life as an outsider, mocking life, Baal fills his days with love affairs with beautiful women and a man, falling in love with him to the point of almost kill for jealousy.
