Classic conspiracy tale about the first manned mission to Mars. All appears to be going well until the astronauts are pulled off the ship just before launch by shadowy government types and whisked off to a film studio in the desert. It transpires that the space vehicle has a major defect which NASA just daren't admit. (imdb)

Pretty cool premise takes too long to get going and takes to long to reach the denoument. The whole film just TAKES TOO LONG.

Superficially pandering to conspiracy theorists, Hyam's straight-faced mockery of such theories is his film's greatest asset. The main conspiracy is comically overdone and a central speech directly references technology's role in the ubiquity of modern conspiracy theories - "you could get anyone to believe anything" indeed. However, there are major narrative issues - the comic relief is incredibly annoying and the entire subplot involving Elliot Gould's investigative journalist feels half-baked.

Movies like this are the reason I don't join the Peter-Hyams-bashing so common on the net these days. Goofy, fun movie about a faked Mars landing featuring a host of stars whose careers were all about to die at about the same time

A big-budget, all-star, action-packed thrill ride of the post-Watergate '70s, this is packed with the sort of cynicism you just don't find in movies today. Though the plotting won't bear too close an examination, this moves along so quickly that you'll hardly notice the contrivances.

When making a tense thriller, it is perhaps not a good idea to suddenly bring in a wacky crop duster pilot for your climax.

Ain't no paranoia thriller like a 70s paranoia thriller - this starts quite well, with a hilariously bitchy dynamic between Karen and Huddleston that I hoped would continue throughout the film, and that grimy, post-Watergate feel that always amplifies when a Holbrook character shows up; unfortunately turns absurd in its second act (the silliness of Gould's car troubles at least made Savalas' crop duster seem a little more reasonable), ultimately sputtering out sluggishly to a "m'eh" finale.

Highly implausible but ultra fun flick. Tension never lets up until Telly Savalas appears. Then I just want to b-slap my TV.

Another film that viewers need to keep in mind, is a product of its time. That said, this film contains a stellar cast and story.

Loved its conspiracy paranoia vibe when I was a kid, now it seems like enjoyable hokum. Some really great flying in the helicopter chase: proper old-school stunt stuff, no CGI.

It is striking that a good idea becomes a miserable script. Good start but afterwards is full of plot holes, inaccuracies and discontinuities.

I hate the "this movie is too long" argument, but as fudgieb said, this one really is too long for what it is

I'll bet this makes a great book. It's also a great look back in time at the 70s. As a movie it takes a long time to get moving and even once it does all the real action surrounds one reporter doing his due diligence as his 70s thriller trope requires him to unveil the conspiracy. Gould is great, brolin underused thrown out in the desert for a meandering uninteresting amount of time. The aerial chase at the end is an improbable escape, but the camerawork for the sequence is impressive

Nasa’nın uzay araştırmalarının aslında sadece bir tv şovu olduğuna dair keskin bir teori içeren oldukça dikkat çekici bir film.Film her nedense hak ettiği ilgiyi pek görememiştir.

Not in the same league as The Parallax View, CO at least has a somewhat tongue in cheek approach to its subject, which helps when it becomes increasingly silly in its 3rd act. Hyams' script is loaded with overripe dialogue, his use of slo-mo is bad, even laughable, the acting is hit and miss, and it drags in the middle act, but it does just enough to keep your attention, and the scene with Savalas culminates in a very finely executed aerial chase

BlurayRip RARBG.

Here we have a film with an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it wants to be a space flick, an escape flick, or a reporter flick. Had it done all of those competently, it might be a classic. But it only did one of them (the space bit) well, and then in the second half it falls down, becoming boring and idiotic. The cast is good and does what it can, but the plot is stretched out and unsalvageable. I can't decide if the proper word for the ending is "silly". "ridiculous", or "fantasy".
