Warner Bros.' Captain Thunder contains some of the darndest Mexican accents you've ever heard in your life. The star is Hungarian-born Victor Varconi, portraying a legendary south of the border outlaw who tries to force Canadian senorita Fay Wray to marry a rival rustler whom she despises. Pretty much a Cisco Kid rip-off. Warner Baxter had won the Academy Award for the role of Cisco Kid in In Old Arizona (1928), so it's only natural for others to try and cash in with a romantic Mexican bandit too. A rare lead role for Victor Varconi in Hollywood, and you can pretty much see why he didn't get many of those. Charles Judels as the clumsy commandant got a few childish giggles. But the real reason to see then is for Fay Wray as a beautiful senorita! She looked the part!
