Gleefully and unapologetically juvenile, but also creative, good-natured, energetic, and frequently witty. My inner 10-year-old was thoroughly entertained. Getting Weird Al for the end credits song bumps my score up a bit.

Modern animated movie with a feel of 90's kids TV shows a-la "Rocco's Modern Life", "Johnny Bravo" and the like. I enjoyed it, don't have anything bad to say about it, but that's about it.

Swallow your pride and go buy yourself a ticket to Captain Underpants. If the cashier smirks at you, just know that they have never known happiness and probably never will. Mock them at your discretion.

It was pretty fluid and funny, I actually liked it plenty, heck I'll even wager this is one of the best superhero origin stories out there.

Finally a superhero I can believe in! Average A-animation release with some wonderful skid mark humor to poop.

This blindsided me with how entertaining it was. It ran at a good pace, kept the humour up (and not ALL of the jokes were about pooping or underpants) and I liked the relationship between the two boys. It probably helped that I watched it with some kids so my usual cynicism was lowered.

Bouncy and bright, with constant laughs and wit. It's honestly a lot better than many have given it credit for.

As a huge fan of the books as a child, it was my duty to see this film. For the most part it's pretty true to the books with a few minor changes. The characters and scenery match those of the book and it feels like the pages come to life right before your eyes. The plot is fun but it's nothing that is going to set it apart from top tier animated movies. I'd argue that some of the voices seem miscast but that's all to opinion. Captain Underpants is innocent family fun. See it. 3.5 STARS

Plenty of laughter and some biting commentary help offset Captain Underpants's overly familiar plot.

Much like "The Boss Baby", "Captain Underpants" is a film that concerns itself with the innocence of childhood and the preservation of it, but unlike most animated movies "Captain Underpants" is immersed in its silliness, rather than merely commenting on it from the sidelines, a juvenile adventure that almost perfectly mirrors the iconic books from which it is adapted. As a former member of the target demographic of these 'epic novels', this is all I could have hoped for. A cut above the rest.

In all honesty it isn't bad. The animation is clean and very well-done, and I didn't read the books, but it's clearly animated and written like the source material. There are better animated movies with better humor, and while this is aimed more towards fans of the books and kids, it's still well-done overall. Good voice acting too, and I'd liked the Weird Al song at the end.

I find it ironic that these 1st graders biggest fears in life are the same ones I had when I was in 1st and 2nd grade...reading the books. Anyways, this done very well, the animation is very slick and done well, Hart, Helms, and Middleditch did excellent voice work, and even if it was aimed for little kids, I got some laughs. It's nice to look back 11 years ago and think about how much I liked the books, and just 1st grade in general...Nostalgia is one of hell of a drug.

Very faithful adaptation of the "book". Great looking animation, solid voice acting, and legitimately funny humor.

Surprisingly witty. Though at the age of 24, potty humor is no longer as effective as it once was.

W3E1P1S1V1M1A1R1. Just meh, but above average for silly kid's fare. The plot is actually pretty complex (but not convoluted) for kids younger than probably 10, and the screwball story takes a lot of the adventure and excitement out of a "superhero" tale. But there were a few pretty solid laughs.

Energetic and messy. Like most superhero movies, actually.

Captain Underpants didn't just not appeal to me, it actually annoyed me. The animation was mediocre, but the film had a stylistic consistency that I could appreciate. The plot also had a few good ideas and progressed in a decent manner. What annoyed me was the justification of bullying under the guise of 'I just found it funny', while simultaneously prattling on about friendship. Hart's voice acting also made the experience worse.

Surprisingly great. The vivid colours, Kristen Schaal's brief appearance, the layout of the story staying true to the books, the notion of a sequel being possible, yeah it's perfect for this sort of franchise. Extra 2 points for Weird Al's theme

Wonderfully silly from the get-go (see the humming along with the DreamWorks music), with toilet bowls full of potty humour but also lots of other creative gags for grumpy grown-ups with smaller hahaguffawchucklealamuses like me to enjoy too (see the sock puppets, the Saturday song, the fake credits). The childish comic book plot leaves something to be desired, but the surprisingly sweet central friendship carries it through ("We just hang out, make comics, and try to make each other laugh").

Low brow humour that is quite clever and enjoyable. Fate ordained that this be the film that was showing immediately after smoking weed. Can't argue with that.
