A surprising meditation on gaze, pleasure, and violence from the young Carpenter. I also liked its raw look and coarse editing.

Better than expected. Something about the way its shot and edited is more reminiscent of cheap European - even Mexican - horror cinema with the sleazy sociological slant of a Boca do Lixo film.... MAYBE all that means is cheap and shitty? The good kind.

It seems that Carpenter would not succeed in honing his comedic capabilities until Dan O'Bannon got involved.

Like an extremely sophisticated home movie. One with a sly sense of humor.
