Finally got around to seeing this one. Glad I did. I cared about the characters, and was intrigued about the alien tech/ and alien relationship w the legislature. Low budget good acting SciFi drama. Beware that it's mostly about the relationships of folks and not on an action heavy battle. That said the tension built is palpable and very well done. I'll leave it there. 7.6 for me. Bravo.

It's got some pretty interesting lore and the idea of aliens taking over the Earth to govern it for their own purposes is always very creepy. There are lot of weird plot holes when it comes to how effective their methods are, so at times you're reduced to the state of suspension of disbelief when it comes to the way the resistance works. Still, it was an entertaining bit of apocalyptic/sci-fi stuff, so if you're into any of that, it's still worth a watch.

Top badass moment? Don't mess with hedgehogs, they've got some seriously badass relatives. I didn’t understand the details of what was going on most of the time (I was drinking limoncello), but the air of impending failure and desperation, helped by a great soundtrack and John Goodman redefining what it means to be being gruff, made this film a enjoyable experience. At times I felt I was watching an episode of Humans or Spooks (both great series). No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

I liked this. You have to pay close attention to catch all of what's happening but it's pretty good.

Nothing happens most of the movie. Really boring and rarely do you see the aliens in any real menacing way. Waste of time.

Could have been better with a competent director. The director on this is a hack. Audio garbled and plot confusing.

The plot, idea and process of the movie caught my attention. The only thing missing is that the script is not good enough for this concept. Other than that, Captive State is extremely enjoyable.

Not very good. Classic mistake with dystopian film that everything has to be dark and gritty. Action sequences with shaky camera are just annoying and add little to the story. But overall its biggest flaw is that it tries to be oh so clever and instead just end up being confusing and hard to follow when mixed with dark scenes. It does explain itself towards the ending but at that point I just didn't care anymore.

It attempts to use tension as a way to build towards this hidden message that the government is not what it seems and people have secrets. None of that is shocking and does not lead me to like a film. It had potential and each piece was implemented to try and bring out that potential but it fell victim to a flat script and zero redeemable characters. That's a shame with such a likable cast who did well with what they are given and are the reason for the more generous score.

After a very long time, I prayed a movie to end. Why there's not a single sunlight in every distopic movie? Does it have to be an overcast sky? Stupid and pointless plot twist with tons of boring actions, just to make the audience think they're impressed. But it feels more like a tell-tale Call of Duty spin-off mission. Please don't watch this.

It is a fact that it sometimes lack subtlety and maybe a bigger budget to develop its ambitious ideas -- we finish the movie knowing so little about the aliens, which is kind a good in a way -- but when it works, it feels truly gripping and well-acted. Nice low-budget dystopia with lots of fun spycraft and thrilling stuff. The final twist seems forced but fuck it, it just works. Goodman GOAT.

Captive State never actually gripped me. The film has a good cast, but I had major issues with the way it was shot. The colour palette was drab, with lots of yellows, browns and a few blues, all to scream future dystopia. The short action sequences are frantic; combined with drawn out scenes of uninteresting dialogue, the pace just seems halted. The plot is alright, but I was never invested enough in the characters for the ending to work for me, though it is arguably the best part of the film.

It's a good dystopian/alien invasion movie but nothing more. Goodman is always pleasant and everybody else is there, not standing out but not ruining scenes. The ending is strange in the sense that it ends exactly where it should for a cliffhanger but then they know that there won't be a sequel so in the credits it says that wars have broken out and the aliens are being overthrown, telling us the stuff we'd usually SEE in a sequel. I get that it's in line with the theme, but still.

An interesting concept. The best part of the movie is shown within the first 3 minutes inside a tunnel. We never see that sort of thing again. John Goodman is great. Overall a bit of a let down.

Hepimiz efesliyiz hepimiz pilseniz.

If you grafted a less subtle version of "The Battle of Algiers" onto the mini-series "V", you'd get something a lot like this movie. It's very much a procedural with the alien menace being a MacGuffin that drives the terrorists-in-action plot, with John Goodman seeming to fill the Jean Martin role as a cop trying to stop the plot. It's a solid film that many might find a little hard to follow since it lets many of the pieces unfold with no explanation until it all comes together in the end.

Captive State doesn't take the time it should to explore its themes, so it lacks the punch I'm sure it desires. Otherwise, it's a well-paced, well-acted sci-fi thriller that will surely keep viewers -- pardon the pun -- captivated for its relatively short running time.

Once I found out it was made by the guy who made Rise of the Planet of the Apes it seemed so obvious. He has a way with crafting these modern and contemplative (as much as you can be making popcorn flix in 2019) dystopian thrillers. It's nice to see Ashton Sanders in something again.
