An impossibly dated piece of chauvinism in which two extremely shallow and threadbare characters play out various farcical and sometimes offensive scenarios with a touch of slapstick, a dash of double-entendre and the occasional song and dance. There's nothing to like about Astaire's smarmy, inconsiderate character who walks all over good people to charm his broad. There are one or two decent dance numbers between the leads but really this travesty should be consigned to the annals of history.

Has its share of dated parts [mostly, a rather ridiculous way of being misogynistic] but Ginger Rogers acting loopy cracked me up & I love Bellamy as the straight man. Serves its purpose - a fun one.

A throwaway plot that only serves to showcase Fred Astaire's dancing abilities--and he doesn't even give his best. At the end there it almost had an entertaining part, but fell short.

The psychiatric one: I recall enjoying it but finding it slightly lesser than the best Astaire-Rogers films.

This eighth collaboration between Astaire and Rogers is entertaining enough due to it's great cast (Jack Carson and Franklin Pangborn have significant roles), but is not among their very best. The film was supposed to burst into colour for the musical dream sequence "I Used to Be Color Blind", but the technology ended up being too costly. Contrary to what the poster assets, Rogers sings "The Yam" unaccompanied.

Can't go wrong with Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire! Even if Carefree is a little uneven in parts. However the dance numbers are very playful. The two know each other so well by now. They 8th movie dancing together and it shows. So smooth perfect motion between them. There wasn't really that many grand dances between them in this one. Maybe that's why it was lacking in parts? Hilarious moments include a drugged-up Ginger going around town breaking windows and going on a sexy shotgun hunt!

Not up to the Astaire-Rogers standard, but still a good musical.
