Carrefour (1938) never caught the right mood with me and I'm sure I'll enjoy both it's British and American remakes more if I ever get to see them. I'm talking about Leslie Banks' Dead Man's Shoes (1940) and Crossroads (1942) with William Powell. Charles Vanel never managed to get too deep into his character in Carrefour. Felt like it was more a directorial miss then his own efforts, and with that all the proceeding events didn't mean as much as they should have.
