Not terrible, but certainly not good. I really liked the original so that could be why I wasn't a fan. The elements and way they handled Carries story and the teen angst was done better in the original. This is really well cast, although Carries mom was written quite differently than she was in the first movie. The revenge scene is still pretty entertaining. This wasn't bad, it just feels totally unnecessary and can't decide if it wants to be the original movie or it's own thing.

For most of its runtime, it's just a bland remake of De Palma's version, not incompetent but with many of the interesting edges sanded down. However, in its final 15 minutes or so, it takes the leap into full-on head-smacking idiocy, complete with a final, uh, "homage" to the original's gravestone scene that may be one of the worst movie moments of 2013.

Everything that is fun and historically relevant about the original is reduced to poor CG, unconvincing acting from good actors and a sleazy direction by a good filmmaker. This is truly bad, lazy entertainment, elevated here and there -- specially in the climax -- by its own self-indulgence with the source, which makes every bad scene look actually hilariously ridiculous.

The Carrie remake is unnecessary but not altogether bad. It's a watered-down, more easily accessible version of De Palma's film, basically. It occasionally attempts to divert but these changes wind up being contradicted by other aspects of the film, leading to tonal inconsistencies. It's all competent and you're unlikely to have a bad experience watching it, but I can't shake the feeling that you're far better off watching the original. It's a horror classic for a reason.

I have a mixed opinion on remakes. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. I disliked this one. If you're looking for a 2013 horror movie on achieving independence via violent methods, check out Stoker. Carrie 2013 is a tacky retread and Moretz is awful. Overblown helplessness, fake tears, unintentionally funny "LOOK AT MY POWERS NOW!" expressions - it's all really bad and completely lacks the under-the-surface mystery that made Spacek's character enchanting. This is in your face and boring.

This remake surprisngly was not so bad. This movie is actually endlessly entertaining due to the striking and bold visuals by Pierce as well as the spot on Carrie White characterization by Mortez. However in the department of quality, this movie is lacking essentials. The dialogue is shoddy, as well as most of the supporting cast. Honestly, a great addition to the art of remaking classics, just in need of a better script and cast.

Some people call this a useless remake, I'd call it an interesting re-imagining. I liked the first movie a lot, but it was far from perfect. This movie sticks closer to the original story of the book, while deepening both Carrie and Margareth as multi-dimensional characters. Carrie is shown here as someone powerful to root for, rather than someone scary to be afraid of. This movie misses the campy charm of the first one, but it's superior in terms of drama and technical aspects.

I think they got a little Carried away with the violence in this one. Especially with Julianne Moore's character. Still, for a remake this wasn't horrible but I would like the clearly state that this movie really brings nothing new to the table that the original film didn't already do...

There's a lot of hate on this for being unoriginal or lacking in the creativity, apparently people don't realize that it's a remake, it's not supposed to be original. What this movie does have is a decent budget and forty years of technical advancement to update the '76 version with better effects than water with red food coloring. I can support the idea of remaking and updating, but unfortunately Carrie was never that awesome of a story, but Chloe Grace Moretz is way better looking than Spacek.

I love the Carrie story, and Moretz does a memorable job here. The climax is suitably large-scale and cathartic. But this is as run-of-the-mill as remakes get. No reason for it to exist, really--nothing new or exciting is done with the story, it's not modernized in any way or made into any sort of commentary on modern adolescence/society. It's just a bunch of people re-telling the CARRIE story. Good story, though, like I said.

Shouldn't be expecting Shakespeare here. It's popcorn fare plain and simple. You don't have to think about it, you just have to watch Carrie White go super nuts over these cunty teenagers being assholes for literally NO RAISIN except, teenagers. You're sitting there waiting for Carrie to finally go full Carrie, and when she does, it's satisfying. Julianne Moore was creepy as hell, and CGM played the role she was handed quite well. Other performances were struggles but to me it's worth seeing.

Another remake using the original as a storyboard, but Peirce has a less unsuccessful time instilling the third act with horror, tragedy and gratuitous revenge. Certain shots of Carrie hovering in the background are positively haunting, or at least better than the split screen original. Moretz does not have the otherworldly look of Spacek, but what she lacks in horror chops, she makes up for with a more sympathetic take on the character. I may never be a fan of remakes, but this one is passable.

As far as horror films go, Carrie is a dud. As far as a remake of De Palma's classic, it's an abomination. De Palma's protagonist was a tortured and troubled girl who looked for acceptance and only found hate, Peirce's Carrie is an domestically abused girl who just sort of loses it one day and has a lot of fun in the process. It's that type of horror film that revels in its brutality rather than sits back appalled by it; for reference see Saw III-VII.

The criticism of this film seems to cluster around two points: it's an uncreative remake, or it's crafted by lesser talents. But I found the differences between the films compelling, the psychology more cohesive, and key moments more rich and nuanced. Some important pieces from King's book were present that showed Carrie in an empowered light which I feel was always intended, and her abilities had more physicality and fearsomeness. Not better in all ways, but still felt worth the remake.

I was initially attracted to this because the trailer was totally indifferent to first time viewers. It laid the whole story out as if to say, "You saw the original, you know what happens. This time there's Julianne Moore." I was okay with that. No point in masking anything. BUT...the motivation in every single scene through the whole movie seems to be: Does the audience know she's telekinetic? Yeah, we got that. Spacek was cast perfectly. Moretz is a fine actress but this part was not for her.

Nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be. It mostly just turned out to be pretty unnecessary. This version just doesn't do enough new things to justify its existence. I did like the way they portrayed Carrie's peers, however. Julianne Moore is good, but as much as I like her, I think Chloe Grace Moretz was miscast in this role. I wouldn't totally advise against seeing this, but if you've already seen the original, I wouldn't bother.

Lacks the subtlety and realism of the original. The overuse of slow motion gore scenes is off-putting and lowers the film to just above the average teen horror movie. Moretz is a terrible choice for Carrie's role. Moore, on the other hand, is great in the role of the crazy mother.

This remake constantly makes you question as to just why it was made, though, as it lacks innovation and does subtle modernizing of the original movie, but has no guts to do anything further than that. Carrie going crazy at the school was a very cool scene, though, so I'll give the movie props for that. The relationship between Carrie and her mother is not fully realized and explored here and it felt a bit lukewarm. The first movie does everything better than this one, so why does this exist?

A frustratingly uninspired remake that kinda messes up the story, adds nothing relevant & removes everything that was striking and neat in the original. Messy structure, bad casting, horrible CGI, lazy "horror-visuals" & cliched score massively degrade it. Sometimes kinda works when directly copying the original yet abandons all the nuance & aesthetics in favour of flat unconvincing characters & loud dumb effects. The core story is still solid though and Moore hams it up like a boss.

I really don't know what went wrong with this film. Can't say it was a disaster or so, but it was really disappointing. I watched it at the cinema, eager to be scared but nothing happened. On the contrary, sometimes I couldn't stop laughing. Maybe the fact that I had quite high hopes for it, since I knew that 1976's "Carrie" was a hit and that Julianne Moore was acting as Carrie's mother, added a bit to my disappointment. Moretz and Moore are really good at their roles though - thank God.

(Viewed in 04/14): A pointless remake that claims greater fidelity to its source material, which is just a respectful way of saying that it lacks imagination. It takes all the fun and lurid qualities of DePalma's original and replaces them with nauseating cliches and eye rolling teen angst. It has been repeatedly noted that Moretz is too attractive to play Carrie, and while there is a grain of truth to that criticism, she isn't all that good in the role, and Moore isn't a patch on Piper.

Ok, a remake. It's more modern than the first one, but there is one thing I don't get: The whole idea is that Carrie is bullied because she is an unattractive teenage girl who is quite ignorant. Then why o why is this Carrie a really beautiful (forget that, saw her in the promdress? I mean stunning) girl? The only thing I thought was "and there goes the plot"

never really fully watched the original, I know all the major plot points and seen a good deal of it, but never in sequence all the way through. That being said, I thought this was pretty cool. The psychological issues dealing with a religious zealot mental patient for a mother probably would be quite extreme, pushing your mind to figure out anyway of fighting back. I thought it was done well, the characters...aside from the main bad girl...all seemed like real people. the ending was badass.

It was supposed to be a horror movie, but I don't remember being ever scared or tense. Carrie never felt real and believable, as Moretz is too good looking for playing the most shy and unpopular girl in school. Instead, Carrie's mother seemed perfectly creepy. Not an awful movie, but it could have been a lot better.

I was hoping for more from this remake. The trailer suggested more of an exploration of the psychological development of the Carrier character. Chloe Grace Moretz's acting was excellent, but I think the plot suffered by being simplified for the target demographic of this October release. The pacing seemed off. I look forward to watching it again and thinking about how it could have been better.

Like every other iteration of this story it shoots itself in the foot by spoiling its own twist. The pivotal moment would be so much more powerful if we hadn't been told it was coming beforehand. It also changes the climax to only effect the 'bad' people which is considerably uglier and more manipulative. Massacres shouldn't be cathartic.

The latest remake of Carrie eschews the campy vibe of De Palma's classic for a more serious tone, but still feels like the same movie. Scenes play out almost the same way as before, with much of the same dialogue, and while Judy Greer and Julianne Moore are good in their roles, the rest of the actors range from adequate to just terrible. It brings nothing new to the story and just feels like a carbon copy of a better film. Watchable, but not good in any way.

I walked in fully aware of the mess of a film I was about to watch. I was not disappointed in that regard. There are so many aspects that could have been improved upon to to pull the story out of the low quality gutter; e.g., explore Carrie's discovery of her telekinesis, the history of abuse at the hands of her peers, and the personal journey of the one girl who grew a heart (the film spent time on this last example...kinda, but to poor effect). I waste no further time critiquing this one.

I haven't seen the original, but this felt less like a remake of a 70s horror film and more like an amalgamation of Chronicle and LOL. Which pretty much sums up my experience. I enjoyed the middle, a moderately interesting coming-of-age drama with some charm and heart, and I disliked the horror stuff at the start and end, which feels out of place and poorly thought out. The end in particular is idiotic, and a real bummer in this context, no better when you know what's coming from the start.

I did like the faux 1970s aesthetic and the presence of Ansel Elgort but that's about all it has going for it. Even Judy Greer can't do much to improve this movie. It's a triumph of try-hard style over substance, lacking in heart, and a clear tumble in terms of quality and artistry from the original. The poster says it all, really; the producers think "Carrie" is about a girl who kills people, whereas King's and De Palma's "Carrie" were about an emotionally traumatised girl trying to figure out what "normal" means. Since Moretz basically plays Carrie with three distinct and separate personalities (shy outsider, normal all-American girl about to spring fully-formed, and cold-blooded killing machine) we're left with one long lead-up to a special effects fest. Not bad; just unnecessary.

Hems closely to the original - at times frustratingly so - but an excellent cast and the inherent power of Stephen King's story ensure this remains an eminently watchable, disturbing flick. Great staging, lovely tense build-ups to climactic moments - and heck, Moretz' outstanding performance alone justifies the remake.
